Raiders sign local punter

The Raiders signed punter Daniel Zychlinski on Friday in a move designed to give incumbent Marquette King a break during offseason workouts and the Raiders insurance in case King gets injured.
King replaced Shane Lechler last season and showed that he has the ability to be a fixture for years to come.
Zychlinski, who played at Stanford from 2008-12, gets an opportunity to learn from King and perhaps get his work on videotape for other teams to see in case they need a punter at some point before or during the season.
Zychinski averaged 42.2 yards during his collegiate career. His 43.1 average his final season was the fifth-best total in Stanford history.

    Exactly

All boom or bust players, Henderson won’t be there. Very questionable picks, i’d go the safer route.
    1. Mack, Barr LB/DE
    2. Cooks, Matthews WR
    3. Joyner, Baptiste CB
    4. Garoppolo, Murray, Fales QB
    7. Long G
    7. DT

Our downfall began when Rozelle blocked our trade for Elway… That was the beginning of the of the end of our greatness.

Henderson was so awful at the Senior Bowl, good chance he doesn’t get drafted.
Safe = stuck in the rut we are in.
We need stars. Adams is legit, Johnson can rush the passer. There is your “safe” players

  • jumpnjiminy

This is a little off topic but I read where Johnny is a scratch golfer…he’ll do well in that Lake Tahoe tourney!

Another tidbit is that one of his ancestors was a Syrian boxer who palled around with Jack Dempsey…

    The legend grows, lol

  • Ron69

I like Adams, just seems like a system WR, Johnson never had a high grade, inconsistent and raw, not in the same level as his older teamates, needed another year, Sam is the one who struggled at the combine, very weak one trick pony, he might last to 7th round, Manziel is the one who worries me the most, i cant tell if his game translates to the pros, dont know much about Grice and Dowling

  • jumpnjiminy

Is it impossible for us to get Manziel and Evans? He’s a huge target and they surely had some chemistry..,

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Sam struggled all week at the Senior Bowl, then went and blew past (I think Henderson lol) for a 3rd down sack in the game.
Grice is a great 3rd down, receiving back prospect. Not an every down guy, but maybe a Kevin Faulk type guy.

The minute the Raiders draft Johnny the sellouts will come and the tarps will go.

  • jumpnjiminy

    That is wild isn’t it!

  • Jon Train

Johnny Manziel won’t, and shouldn’t, be drafted by the Raiders.

His skills don’t translate. How some of you ignore this obvious fact is beyond me.

In order to succeed at the next level, he is going to have to CHANGE how plays the game. So the notion of drafting him is pure insanity.

To be an NFL QB you MUST be able to hit your back foot at the end of your drop and let go of the ball the majority of the time. That’s not at all what Manziel is. It’s literally the weakest part of his game.

  • jumpnjiminy

How would you rank the qbs in the draft from 1st to 5th?

  • RediaR

Prepare for the wrath of the Manzielots.

  • Jon Train

Honestly I don’t know about 1 – 5. Bridgewater is 1st though. His game most resembles an NFL QB. Calling protections, reading defenses quickly, letting go of the ball under pressure, extreme mental toughness as well as a good teammate and leader….all the things that are required to survive as an NFL QB. He’s the most NFL ready.

  • 0tt0

i see no reason why manziel cannot be as good as russel wilson…..wilson is not a great QB(yet) …….he doesnt hit his back foot at the end of his drop and let go of the ball………..but the guy makes plays…..

the biggest obstacle I see for manziel if he is drafted by us is the coaching staff

  • Jon Train

Wilson in college was a dropback passer with some running ability. He was a very good NFL prospect. It just so happens he was drafted by a team that does a ton of play action ZBS bootleg stuff.

  • 0tt0

so the guy folks are projecting to be in the top 10 IS NOT a good prospect…and the guy drafted in the 3rd round WAS a very good prospect…..right

  • Jon Train

Point being…Manziel’s NFL success is contingent upon getting drafted by the “right team” with the “right system” more so than any other QB in the draft. Because he is limited.

  • Zymurge

If you compare those with Pryor’s college highlights, Carr is already 5X the NFL QB that Pryor is after 3 years. It just shows how important reading, adjusting going through progressions, and accuracy are.

  • jumpnjiminy

I like Teddy – he’s the one I really don’t think will be there at 5, but Johnny might. Don’t like Bortles or Carr or Murray…of the rest I think McCarron is the most pro ready and the bonus of waiting for him is plugging other holes first. I hear ya about Johnny but there is something about his style and that he’s been compared to Fran Tarkenton that’s got me liking him more than I had in the past…

I won’t feel horrible if they take any of those other guys I mentioned, I just prefer Johnny, Teddy, and McCarron at this point.

  • Zymurge

Does Schaub have a little brother in college right now?

  • RediaR

I think the success of Bortles is contingent on getting drafted by a team that doesn’t have to make him a full time starter for at least one season.

  • Jon Train

Actually, yes. Forget the mocks. Wilson had prototypical NFL skill sets (with the big exception being his height). ..Manziel does not.

  • 0tt0

that is essentially what i meant by saying…..the biggest obstacle I see for manziel if he is drafted by us is the coaching staff……its on the coaching staff to take advantage of his skills and make himm successful….he has the talent and the attitude and the smarts…….thats all you can ask for….its up to the coaching from there

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

How did that “don’t translate” thing work for Cam Newton? Warren Moon? STeve Young?
I bet Heath Shuler and David Klinger’s skills “translated” well though.
Manziel has flawless mechanics, an above average arm, and great accuracy. He will have to tone down the running, so he will.
Pretty simple. He is an elite prospect.

  • Jon Train

Absolutely. But he doesn’t have to change HOW he plays the game.

  • Jon Train

Wow. That makes no sense. I don’t even know where to start. Thank you though.

  • jumpnjiminy

    And after Young’s name Fran?

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

He can play in any system.
He threw more passes the last two years than Teddy did. For more yards and more TD’s. And barely less completion % against way better competition, and a year young with less experience.

  • Ron69

    Qb prediction, order
    8 pick. Bortles- Vikings
    26 pick Carr- Browns
    2nd Bridgewater- Texans
    2nd Manziel- Jags
    3rd Mettenberger -Titans
    3rd McCarron- Cards
    4th Garoppolo- Raiders

  • irjonny

manziel is not my favorite QB this year, but he is an elite prospect. no denying that

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    What doesn’t make sense?
That someone disagrees with you and shows you why they do?

  • RediaR

I’m having flashbacks to the hardcore Pryor brigaders before last season saying how super talented he is and if he fails it’s because of everyone but him.

  • Jon Train

Sorry. That was rude. Seriously though… you just compared him to guys who were both bigger and had better dropback passing games than him. So it doesn’t make much sense to compare Manziel to say, a Warren Moon.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Manziel threw more passes, for more yards and TD’s ,than Bridgewater did , against better competition, a year younger, with more yards per attempt and with less experience.
Only thing Teddy had better was a slightly better completion %.
Manziel is a better PASSER than Teddy. Not even debatable.

  • Jon Train

Manziel is used to having a bunch of time in the pocket while he misses his first reads, pats the ball for awhile and either throws or does the scramble drill. That’s simply not gonna fly in the NFL and you know it

  • RediaR

Now, Manziel is 10000x better than Pryor.

  • 0tt0

pryor is super talented…he just cant throw a football with any kind of accuracy…..which is the #1 requirement of an NFL QB……manziel can throw a football with accuracy

  • Jon Train

But wait oh I forgot…Manziel “is super smart. He’ll figure it out”…LOL please

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Did you watch his two bowl games? His Alabama games?
Because those are the games that won me over. Played from the pocket, got the ball out quick, basically everything you say he doesn’t do, he did. And made it look rather easy.
Don’t let the highlights fool you. He doesn’t have 1,000 crazy plays and 1 pocketthrow. IT is the opposite.

  • jumpnjiminy

Garapolo had monster stats…5050 yds & 53 tds…wouldn’t kill us if it went that way.

  • RediaR

Nah, QBs wont fall that much.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

He is. Stanford and high IQ private schools offered him scholarships out of HS.
Is he football smart? We don’t know. But intelligence, he is off the charts.

  • Ron69

You might have to trade back to the first round to secure Bridgwater and. Manziel

  • Jon Train

I did watch. And the throws you speak of..he’s not gonna have that kinda time in the pocket all the time. His eyes are gonna get low and he’s gonna take off at the NFL level. He carries the ball recklessly when he runs and he’s gonna learn very quickly in the NFL that its hard to stay healthy as a running QB

  • Jon Train

So was Heath Shuler. Moot point.

  • 0tt0

i never really watch teddy play other than you tube clips….from those i dont like the way the ball always seems to have alot of air underneath and floats…..but again I havent seen much

  • irjonny

    JFB

Carr is my QB (whatever), but if anyone wants to bash Manziel here’s the video that i prefer over any other. all pocket passes. perfect form, great reads, some not so pretty, but i’m not crying in my beer if his name is called for us

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ziv2s2mt6U

  • Jon Train

No he can’t play in any system when he hasn’t consistently demonstrated the pocket discipline and quick decision making like TB has. Those numbers you spout off honestly don’t mean much. That’s the ESPN mentality of too many of today’s fans. Thus the manlove towards the legend of Johnny Football. He’s in for a rude awakening.
