Raiders meet with Mettenberger on Tuesday

The Raiders pushed up their meeting with Louisiana State quarterback Zach Mettenberger to Tuesday as Mettenberger attempts to accommodate a number of suitors.
Mettenberger’s pro day is scheduled for Wednesday. Rather than cram in too much that day, Mettenberger set up meetings with the Raiders and New England Patriots on Tuesday, according to NFL Network.
He is the latest in a long line of quarterbacks that the Raiders are checking out in advance of the NFL draft. Earlier, the Raiders attended the pro days of Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, David Fales and Derek Carr.
The Raiders hold the rights to the fifth pick in the draft, which begins May 8. It’s conceivable that the Raiders will use one of their picks on a quarterback, even though they have four on their roster right now.
None of the four on the Raiders roster – Matt Schaub, Matt McGloin, Terrelle Pryor and Trent Edwards – is considered a long-term solution.
Mettenberger still is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament that he suffered in a game late last season. The injury required surgery, but Mettenberger said he intends to go through all the drills expected of a quarterback in a pre-draft workout.
Manziel, Bortles, Bridgewater and Carr are viewed as likely first-round picks. Fales and Mettenberger are projected to go in the mid rounds, perhaps as high as the second round.
Therefore, if the Raiders use their first-round pick on a player at a position other than quarterback, Mettenberger becomes more of a possibility.
The Raiders hosted Manziel at their facility on Sunday and Monday. More quarterbacks are slated to make their way to Alameda in the coming days for face-to-face visits with coach Dennis Allen, general manager Reggie McKenzie, offensive coordinator Greg Olson and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, among others.

Idk. I forgot I’m not allowed to say Kap went to two straight NFC championships without being accused of being a Niner fan. Idk what I was thinking.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

A few selet have that happen. I noticed it 1st with Charlie and coincidentally SnBg. Alas, it seems to be another Disqus glitch with no meaning.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

But i’m in favor of utilizing it if possible.

  • 0ak R8rs

I gave him a downvote. 1-1=0. The downvotes disappeared a month or so ago on some browsers for whatever reason.

I guess it’s the jobs that bring them here? I don’t know what the draw is outside of that.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Chi town? The blues, of course.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Sweet home, Chicago!

  • BuckeyeRaider

We moved from the suburbs in southwest Ohio, which had almost zero % Mexican population, to North Carolina..which has a substantial one.

I’ll never forget my 10 year old daughter’s first day of school down here. She came home so excited. This is an exact quote. “Dad, I’m sitting next to a real, live Mexican”.

She has a lil friend that’s teaching her Spanish. And how to say bad words in Spanish. She thinks that’s hilarious.

Fantastic Tamales in Chicago. That’s what gets them probably.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Wait. Isn’t that a chicken/egg thing?

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

No, not the tamale itself, silly.

  • Breaking_Black

What part of North Carolina? I used to live in Fayetteville and then Raleigh for a bit.

  • 0ak R8rs

Nah. I was introduced to Chicago cuisine, including those amazing tamales, well over 20 years ago. Well before any South American influx to my knowledge.

  • 0ak R8rs

I think I may have killed Prometheus. He will be missed.

  • DJ Johnny

I actually played drums in a band that featured Matt “The Guitar” Murphy’s (guitarist of the Blues Brothers) brother in it when I was a young lad. One of my brushes with greatness. Lol.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Well them there would be what we call ‘Murcanized’ eats misappropriated from their rightful originators and subject to royalties and penalties dating back to at least then. When and where did you first have these ‘so-called tamales’?

  • 0ak R8rs

Yea. I can’t wait. I’m sure it will be a disappointment, but I’m anxious nonetheless.

  • 0ak R8rs

Hrm. Just out of college I think. So maybe 1992? Saw a White Sox game, second year of their new stadium I believe, so we could extrapolate from there I suppose.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

You were just like a groupie. Hung out with musicians. Sorry, drummer joke that got me beat up by a lot of drummers.

Felt safer here. No, seriously, that’s very cool.

  • DJ Johnny

You had Eddie Van Halen over at your house so I think you’ve got me beat.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Baseball? Not with me! Chavez Ravine and the dodger i think. I do remember the beer.

  • 0ak R8rs

No. Didn’t have the tamales at the White Sox game. Just know I went to that game the same week I had the tamales. No such thing as “great” food at a baseball game IMO. No matter how “famous” it is or renowned, it’s still mass produced to me.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

A few that impress me more, but Eddie is true. HeII, the band played there pre Roth. Not many party yards in Pasadena that’s not true of.

  • BuckeyeRaider

    Hey DJ,
I have a new favorite guitarist. It’s not Michael Schenker and his metallic styling on the frets. Not the Rock Gods of Page, Clapton or Hendrix. Not even Stevie Ray.

Nope. It’s Jess Greenberg. You heard me. I find her hypnotizing. Mezmorizing.

I was having a bad day at work. Stressing out. Getting aggravated. I thought of her, and her angelic voice. Her soulful strumming of her acoustic guitar….and her absolutely perfect, bouncing, jiggling breasts…and a calmness came over me. And all was right with the world.

And I’ll tell you guys the same thing I’ll tell my wife if she asks: ” I don’t know. It just showed up on my computer….and I clicked on it”

Yeah they are hot. Ohh you’re talking about the food. That too.

    And den?

  • R8drTahoe in SF

How high is Mt. Everett? Is it anything like Mt. Everest?

  • DJ Johnny

Dang. Are those real? You’re right. She is somethin’ else.

  • R8drTahoe in SF

Of course it is a well known fact that the Hispanic immigration did not happen until after 1992… They rushed to Chicago after hearing tales of how good United States tamales are.

  • 0ak R8rs

That wasn’t exactly the point of the conversation. But that was funny nonetheless.

In just 3 short off seasons, the ole Regster has managed to make the ESPN bottom 5 list of worst Raider free agent signings…

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I assume your daughter is returning the favor.

  • AutumnThunderstorm

Marino is in the top ten of all time quarterbacks; arguably in the top five.

Kaepernick is not even in the top forty.

  • 0ak R8rs

Depends on what you read. NFLN had us 2nd in our division only to Denver in our FA season this year.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Damn Italians came over for the pizza. Potato famine drove the Irish to Idaho

  • 0ak R8rs

And there have been MANY worse than Briesel. That’s ridiculous. Briesel was a warrior. And cost us about $5 million for two years. Hardly a disaster.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Jim or Chrissie?

  • RaiderDirt

    TBC…

  • R8drTahoe in SF

I thought the EyeTallEeAhNoes came over cuz the SpeGetEe is so good… Even the Japanese have started coming here after hearing how great the sushi is!

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Not the point? Count me in!

  • AutumnThunderstorm

I completely agree with you Oak Raider.

I think Gutierrez is simply doing some Reggie bashing, in a cowardly fashion at Brisiel’s expense.

  • R8drTahoe in SF

Mt. Everett is a little known hill outside of Reno, NV where Kaepernick played college ball I think… I grew up in Truckee, CA which is a half hour drive from there yet I’d never heard of it until tonight. ;)

  • BuckeyeRaider

According to Jim Rome, they were one in the same.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    I’m eminently tangentialable..

  • AutumnThunderstorm

Brisiel wasn’t a probowler, but he was a solid player.
    Played hurt multiple games.

A Raider for life that deserves our respect for life.

  • BuckeyeRaider

    Although, that’s not fair.

    Chrissie was a fierce competitor.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

I haven’t seen many memorable moments in interview history, but I saw that one live(on TV). Chair and all.

  • Try Some Reality

Lol. While the criticism for that signing may be a bit harsh, surely you can’t be serious. LOL

  • AutumnThunderstorm

Yes I’m serious and don’t call me Shirley.

    My name is Ron.
