Tuck leads by example, seeks to change mind-set of Raiders

Veteran defensive end Justin Tuck knows he’s being watched. By coaches, players and fans. That’s just fine with Tuck, too, because he knows what he’s doing works.
“The biggest thing is just coming here and going about your business, like I always have done,” Tuck said.
For Tuck, that means showing teammates, especially the younger players, how to comport themselves in meetings and practices, walking the walk and backing it up on a daily basis.
“That’s what people watch,” Tuck said. “They don’t (listen to) what you say, or rah-rah this or whatever. They watch you by example and how you walk every day.”
Hence, Tuck went about his business Friday in the first training camp practice without saying much.
In time, he is hopeful that much of what he has learned during his 10-year NFL career will rub off on his teammates.
That will take time, just as it’s going to be awhile before Tuck gets a sense for how good the Raiders are going to be this season.
“The only things you can tell is how excited they are to play the game and if they’re in shape or not,” Tuck said of the first practice in more than a month. “You really find out what kind of team you’re going to have when you throw the pads on. Right now, we’re in jerseys and shorts, so everybody’s flying around, everybody looks like all stars.”
If Tuck gets his way, the Raiders are going to go from 4-12 each of the past two seasons to playoff contender in short order.
And, it won’t be for lack of trying. Tuck said one of his missions is to change the mind-set of a Raiders franchise that has gone 11 straight seasons without a winning record or a playoff berth.
“I’m an underdog story guy, man,” Tuck said. “I’ve always rooted for the underdogs in movies and all this stuff. They act like we don’t get paid to play football for some reason.
“We’ve got a lot of talent on this team. We’ve got to put it together, obviously, and we’ve got to exorcise some demons that have been here, some thought processes of some guys that are used to having 4-12 seasons. The mindset has to change. We hear it. I hear all the things that people say and I’m in the business of proving people wrong.”

:”They watch you by example and how you walk every day.”
Was that a shot at DJ?

  • Twinkie defense

It’s funny how when McKenzie and Allen came in, they’d say “we have to change the mindset.” Now two years later, guys are coming in, saying “we have to change the mindset.”

    Any good news today?

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Sure! All three QBs looked sharp, Little was lighting it up, and everybody’s impressed by Mack.

  • 0ak R8rs

Nice. Gotta go back and read the last entry.

  • DJ Johnny

Your Mets came back with 3 in the 9th to beat Milwaukee. Thanks for that.

  • DJ Johnny

    I thought of Seymour actually.

  • 0ak R8rs

Sweet. Not so good yesterday tho. Life of a sub .500 team I guess.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Yeah, I figured out that by un blocking twitter in Ghostery I get Cork’s tweets right here, with an assist from Dutch and Sixes.

Stop trolling me, douche bag. Nobody likes you. Nobody values your opinion. Everyone is happier when you aren’t here. Which probably applies to your life in general. You’re a bitter, old Cowboy fan troll w an agenda. Just stfu.

  • 0ak R8rs

Ah. Doubt I can do that w my iPhone. Oh well.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Funny how those kind always have a locked profile.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

    New Post.

  • 0ak R8rs

Exactly. Can’t stand that guy. No joy in his life. Never heard a positive word out of his mouth. Doesn’t have to be all unicorns and rainbows. But there’s no way he will ever be happy w any post-Al Raider team. I wish he’d just go away.

  • Al_is_theraiders

    did you leave yet?

  • Al_is_theraiders

    change your mind again?

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Apparantly they do @ the app store for iOS and they do android too. I don’t use it’cuz I’m paranoid, but the ridiculous amount of trackers, widgets, ads, beacons, analytics, tag managers and on and on that have to load slowed things down on my limited bandwidth DSL. this site isn’t bad, averaging 6-9 but I’ve seen it as high as 70. Newspapers routinely run over a 100

I’m rooting for Tuck to help change the mind-set of the players on this team.
