Mack lowers the boom, receives props from Allen

Rookie linebacker Khalil Mack flattened tight end Mychal Rivera on a running play Thursday, with Rivera knocked on his backside.
“It was good to see,” coach Dennis Allen said. “I expect him to be able to do that a lot this year.”
Sure enough, on the next play Mack stuffed running back Latavius Murray on a run play up the middle. That’s the kind of bang the Raiders expect from Mack, their first-round draft pick.

– Veteran safety Charles Woodson intercepted quarterback Matt Schaub on back-to-back plays. He returned one for a touchdown.
Allen jumped to Schaub’s defense by pointing out that Schaub “responded well” after the interceptions and has played well overall in camp.
“I know how this whole thing is going to work,” Allen said. “Anytime Schaub throws an interception, everybody is going to want to try to hit the panic button and act like the sky is falling. … I’ll let (others) push the panic button. I’m not going to. He’s still doing a great job.”
Rookie Derek Carr also had a pass intercepted and returned for a touchdown Thursday. In the end, neither play is much to get worked up over.
If they happen during exhibition games, then it warrants concern.
As Allen said, Schaub had another pretty decent day. On one play, Schaub laid a pass in to wide receiver Denarius Moore on a post route. However, defensive back Chimdi Chekwa was there to break up the play.

– Brandian Ross and Jonathan Dowling also intercepted passes Thursday, and cornerback Taiwan Jones recovered a fumble. The takeaways earned high praise from Allen and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver.

– On Woodson’s first interception, he fell to the ground, rolled over, jumped to his feet and ran over to fans where he doled out a slew of high-fives. The fans roared with delight.
He gave the fans even more reason to cheer on the next play, when he returned an interception for a touchdown. He did so with the kind of flair you might expect from Woodson, ever the showman.

– Defensive tackle Antonio Smith missed practice with a groin injury that he suffered Wednesday. Allen said he doesn’t feel as if the injury is related to the sports hernia that Smith had surgery for in the offseason.
Wide receivers Juron Criner (hamstring) and Greg Little (hamstring) and linebackers Kaluka Maiava (hamstring) and Marshall McFadden (hip) also missed practice.

– WR Rod Streater (concussion) practiced at full strength for the first time since he got injured. Guard Austin Howard (back) returned to practice one day after he missed some time.

– TJ Carrie and Denarius Moore have impressed Allen on punt returns so far, Allen said. Rookie George Atkinson III has a ways to go in the return game, however.
“The guy’s explosive, he’s got some talent,” Allen said, “but he’s got to do a better job of hanging on to the ball.”

– Defensive lineman C.J. Wilson practiced for the first time Thursday after he was activated from the non-football injury list.

All the praise, and Schaub goes out there craps his pants.

They said he had his mojo back, now this just one day later.

Shameful! Funny thing is Matt Flynn did the exact same thing about this time last year. Three picks and a fumble in four plays. Except Schabby makes sure they get a head start to the endzone. Now that takes talent.

Adam Gase will get a HC gig and Knapp will be promoted to Peyton’s new OC in Dungver and he’ll draw high praise from egghead

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

    Blah, blah, blah.

Schaub has a couple of picks and you think it’s the end of the world.

Pryor plays QB terribly for YEARS, and you come up with excuse after excuse after excuse.

Rivera is a pass catcher. One play Mack is blowing him over, next play Rivera fakes him and catches in the flat for 20 yards.

I can assure you I am one of Schaub’s biggest critics in here but I am going to wait and see him play in a game before forming an opinion.

  • Blackholepriest

Schaub is just great at this I mean, you can’t throw pick6′s at this rate without some gifts. Real gifts for the defense…….predictable!

  • Raider O

Peyton doesn’t need an OC, he calls his own plays.

  • 0ak R8rs

Defense was due for a good day. Nice to see. Now we r competing on both sides of the ball. Anything else worthwhile today?

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    Ross for MUP

  • PlunkforHOF

    I’m a good referee.

  • Blackholepriest

Fine with me, he is who he is. Leopards can’t change their spots and become a Tigers.

  • BigTed707

I say don’t read into TC tweets too much imo. It takes time for a QB to jell with the receivers, you said that yourself.

  • 0ak R8rs

I already saw that. Wonder if he caught his pick or if it just got caught in his face mask?

  • PlunkforHOF

Has to actually possess the ball then.

  • Blackholepriest

    Keep hope Alive!

  • http://cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

When TP2 is throwing INT’s or creating 3 and 48 at least he looked cool doing it running around in circles….He is so much more entertaining besides who cares about winning the game.

  • 0ak R8rs

Omg you’re such a predictable hater. Can’t be happy the defense finally had a day where they weren’t walked all over? You miss the last two weeks of TC? You’re really incredible.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

This is during a TC practice. But Pryor’s panicking and running around like an idiot during actual games is perfectly acceptable to you.

Like I said: blah, blah, blah. You are such a complete fool.

  • JV.

So…. I’m guessing I missed the blog meltdown when Schaub threw those picks?? Lol.

  • http://cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

will you remember this conversation later?

  • 0ak R8rs

I guess that’s why Pryor always sucked and always will?

  • Raider O

Great. Hopefully between us 3, one will remember. Lol
    I will smoke again. Lol

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

That only applies to Pryor. BHP doesn’t give that benefit of the doubt to any other QB.

  • PlunkforHOF

Sure.. don’t smoke as much anymore. And not drinking tonite

  • Blackholepriest

I bet if this was Pryor you wouldn’t say that!

Schabby Schaub’s history is “I put up great stats” and get you beat when it counts.

    Keep hope Alive!

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Your buddy GAIII is stinking up the joint.

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

According to BHP, Pryor only needs another 50 starts to become adequate…

  • http://cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

    You rock Plunk!

    What instrument do you play?

  • Blackholepriest

He’s never thrown three picks in one practice……so it’s easy. When he does let me know.

  • Blackholepriest

They’re gonna have a lot of hood days son. Look who’s throwing!

  • PlunkforHOF

Mostly guitar. Mostly acoustic. Solo so I make more money.

  • Morilla_00

“Rookie Derek Carr also had a pass intercepted and returned for a touchdown Thursday.”

    Cut him.

  • JV.

Yea he threw them in games when it mattered.

  • BigTed707

I liked Pryor. I think he had a terrible coaching situation here.
I expect schobby to give us at least Jason Campbell level competency, and I don’t mean that as an insult.
Game manage and check downs with the occasional deep post.

  • JV.

    Bust.

Already headed down the Carr family road.

  • Blackholepriest

McGloin threw more……yet he’s loved in here. Can’t win a game “but man can he sling it”.

  • AlDavisJr

    Zingggg!!!

  • JV.

Both did… Which is why neither are starting caliber qbs.

  • AlDavisJr

And better coaching and better receiving and better blocking and easier competition and—and—-

  • http://cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

I play acoustic but guitar is my 3rd instrument so I am not as strong as I would like.

  • Blackholepriest

He can do that BT707, but look out when it counts……period

  • Blackholepriest

He’s young yet, I give him the next two years at least. Schaub ain’t getting any better……period

  • BigTed707

    It doesn’t count yet!

  • http://cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

Ever hear of a 3rd and 48 before Pryor?

  • Morilla_00

Rivera always did seem a little soft. More of the finesse type TE, borderline WR. Better hit the weights.

That wouldn’t happen with the Wizard of Aus.

  • Blackholepriest

    The difference TP is hated.

  • Blackholepriest

    Don’t worry soon they will….

  • http://cosmicdanceband.com/ SilverandBlack666

No one hates TP they just realize he is Tebow and should not play QB

  • Morilla_00

You’re such a drama queen. It must be a b%tch to live with you. Are you married? Girlfriend? Tell them I’m sorry.

  • Blackholepriest

    That’s according to you!
