Raiders CB DJ Hayden showing some progress while working with members of training staff

Raiders cornerback DJ Hayden was moving laterally and doing some cutting with the athletic training staff Monday, the most he’s done physically while in the presence of the media since training camp began.

Hayden has been on the physically unable to perform list after having surgery related to a stress fracture and has yet to practice. Whether the Raiders hope to get him back for the season opener or will take it slow and have him open the season on the regular season PUP remains to be seen.

If Hayden goes on regular season PUP, he doesn’t count toward the 53-man roster and can be brought back six weeks into the season at the earliest.

As practice got underway Monday, those who weren’t participating during the media window included fullback Marcel Reece (foot), defensive tackle Justin Ellis (concussion), tackle Matt McCants (concussion), cornerback Taiwan Jones (unspecified injury), cornerback Chimdi Chekwa (knee), tight end David Ausberry (knee) and wide receiver Juron Criner (hip).

Allen indicated Sunday that Chekwa and Jones are being rehabbed with the target of being ready for the season opener, so neither is likely to play in the final two preseason games. Allen said that Jones was “banged up.”

Quarterback Derek Carr, who left the Detroit game with a concussion, was back on the practice field in a helmet and participating in warmups and drills.

I feel like we’re on Chaz Schilenz watch all over again.

  • plunkhead

The Giants should have fired Coughlin last year
    They look horrible

  • RaiderCDE

If DJ can play in the that last preseason game it would be huge

  • DutchRaid

Lol, think we trade for Eli next year?

  • BigBenRexor

We should’ve never hired DA in the first place.

  • plunkhead

I don’t even want to think about it

  • Elliot

Archie won’t let him come here

  • plunkhead

I disagree. The Japanese all star scout approved the deal

  • Nore

If he’s already on the side running and cutting, then we can forget about regular season PUP unless a setback occurs.

  • BigBenRexor

Running and cutting with a trainer is a Looooong way from Running and cutting with a WR. He’ll probably still need the PUP before he can run with the big dogs.

  • plunkhead

But he is young and has experience recovering from serious injuries

  • Silver&BlackBleeder

Reece is hurt too? Does anyone know if it’s serious or not? Raiders and these F’n foot injuries….SMH

  • BigBenRexor

It’s not good experience though, so far his time limit for serious injuries is an entire year of football.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

“Banged up.” Jeeeeez. Talk about unspecific.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Report from Chris Bair said he was wearing a small boot last practice.

  • JerryMcDonalds#1Fan

LeBron James just challenged Prez BO to do the ice bucket challenge, lol

  • plunkhead

I was joking about “experience recovering from serious injuries”
    lol

  • BigBenRexor

They seem to pile up once we hit the Collesium.
    Fire the Grounds Keeper Now!

  • Silver&BlackBleeder

A boot? SMH Thanks for that info….made me more depressed, but good to know

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Nah. We had a lot in Napa too.

  • BigBenRexor

I know, I was just using the opportunity to take another cheap shot at him.

  • JerryMcDonalds#1Fan

what did Scott Bair say? Marcel is alive and well ?

  • BigBenRexor

It’s be cool if Barry O responds with a Water Boarding challenge for LBJ.

  • Silver&BlackBleeder

Yea, I know. That’s the problem. We’re just now hitting the stadium and we’re already going thru the foot trauma….. Sad thing is the grounds keeper up in Napa might be the same one in Oakland. Ha! How terrible would that be?

  • Howard Benner

    Knowledge is power. . .

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Without having been able to run at all, it will take weeks, even IF his foot is okay, for Hayden to get in any kind of game shape. For that reason, no reason to rush him back. It’s not like we’re going to the Super Bowl, folks.

  • FourMoreYears

Come on DJ Hey-Bey, we need you back.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

The have a practice field. He didn’t get hurt, I don’t think, on the O.Co field.

He is in a walking boot, seems serious enough to cause a slight concern

  • FourMoreYears

You guys want to chip in for some deer antler spray?

  • Howard Benner

What if they move to LA? Would Archie or the committee Manning then approve?!

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Go to his twitter account. Jerry, who was at practice, didn’t mention it in his tweets. Jerry did say Reece “left with a foot injury Sunday” but Bair reported the boot at the last practice. I’m on a tablet and it’s hard to copy and paste or else I’d paste it here for you.

Possibly…moot point since I see Carr as our future qb…

I wish the NFL will bring back the “You Make The Call” segment during televised games. I used to love it as a kid. In the Goodell NFL, they have a lot of new “material” to cover!

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    Good news with Carr.
To continue to build off the momentum of last week is vital.

  • Howard Benner

The Jets are no slouch against the run. . .

Their pass coverage might be as porous as what the Raiders have exhibited. . .potentially worse. . .

they have safeties playing the corner. . .

  • JerryMcDonalds#1Fan

Johnnie Lee Higgins, I think you meant to say …

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

I swear each of those guys needs to consult a podiatrist each off season to get advice on the kind of shoe he needs to wear. Forget about how the shoes LOOK.
