Raiders CB DJ Hayden showing some progress while working with members of training staff

Raiders cornerback DJ Hayden was moving laterally and doing some cutting with the athletic training staff Monday, the most he’s done physically while in the presence of the media since training camp began.

Hayden has been on the physically unable to perform list after having surgery related to a stress fracture and has yet to practice. Whether the Raiders hope to get him back for the season opener or will take it slow and have him open the season on the regular season PUP remains to be seen.

If Hayden goes on regular season PUP, he doesn’t count toward the 53-man roster and can be brought back six weeks into the season at the earliest.

As practice got underway Monday, those who weren’t participating during the media window included fullback Marcel Reece (foot), defensive tackle Justin Ellis (concussion), tackle Matt McCants (concussion), cornerback Taiwan Jones (unspecified injury), cornerback Chimdi Chekwa (knee), tight end David Ausberry (knee) and wide receiver Juron Criner (hip).

Allen indicated Sunday that Chekwa and Jones are being rehabbed with the target of being ready for the season opener, so neither is likely to play in the final two preseason games. Allen said that Jones was “banged up.”

Quarterback Derek Carr, who left the Detroit game with a concussion, was back on the practice field in a helmet and participating in warmups and drills.

But first, a message from our sponsor; dial a call. . .

After further review, we need more time to review the call. . .

  • Silver&BlackBleeder

    G …. I …… Joooooooooooooooooe! Lol Had to

  • Nore

I doubt that. They aren’t sitting him out the 1st 6 games of the season.

  • Duct tape

Ohhh man! good ole Chaz Schilenz? I remember when a media outlet (NFL.com or ESPN) sent someone out here to cover this diamond in the rough that somehow landed in the Raiders lap. Shoulda known then it was too good to be true.

  • Howard Benner

yeah; don’t need him to pop a hammy or anything. . .

he might eventually qualify for the stationary bike Tour de France. . .

His new role. . .just has to stay on the bike. . .

  • Duct tape

Agreed. This kid needs reps. Even if he sits 2-3weeks of the reg season those extra 3-4 games are huge for his development.

  • TrevJo

Is he actually allowed to practice, given the new(ish) concussion protocol?

  • J Hill

    Yes, it is.

    Same with Hayden

I saw a fairly lengthy report yesterday on a news show about how this ALS campaign has really cut into the funds that other charities are getting.
It’s sad, but true, that when one charity gets all kinds of attention, others suffer. Some can’t get the same recognition by the big “corporations” like the NFL.
In years past, charities for women’s diseases, like breast cancer, got little money because Hollywood and the New York media did nothing but publicize HIV/AIDS research. The worm turned on that eventually.
    Cycles.

  • TrevJo

We already have DJ Hey-Bey back, he’s wearing #15 this season.

Very Jake Delhomme-ish (The Cleveland Browns version of Jake).

  • Silver&BlackBleeder

Knowing the Raiders, our Napa field probably is just as crappy as the O. I’ll never forget reading an article where soccer coaches were ripping American football fields that they sometimes did their international scrimmages on and the condition they’re kept in. All I could think of was they were ripping fields that were ranked way higher than our field; so our field has to be the worst of the worst (and I’m not even talking about the dirt part yet). That sheet is unacceptable

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

They won’t play him this week, nor should they. Cleared or not–don’t take a chance. The brain has to heal like all other parts of the body and to get another concussion on top of his would be devastating. Once you have had even one, you get others more easily, they have determined.

  • R8erEduc8er

Little has to make the team. He’s our only legitimate deep threat. DMo is a deep threat but a smaller targer.

  • RaiderCDE

McGloin will play in the 4th – hopefully we’re not down too bad, he can roll another comeback.

  • _Mista_

Theres the baseball guru! Blog GM and expert on the Oakland A’s!

Hey wristbands, tell us again how Kazmir sucks and Beane made the best deal in all MLB getting rid of Cespedes. Turned the A’s from a WS contender to maybe a wild card, genius!

Is it time to stay in your lane and stick to your Giants or what?

  • RaiderCDE

Butler is starting to show something and he’s a 4.4 guy. Little will break your heart and lose games for you.

  • FourMoreYears

Little is only a threat to let us down on 3rd down.

  • TrevJo

Little isn’t a legitimate anything threat. (Except at what FourMourYears said!) We’re not going to be able to throw deep anyway because our pass protection is poor and our QBs are lousy throwing deep.

  • _Mista_

There goes your narrative about Carr taking a hit and not getting up.

  • R8erEduc8er

Yea agreed *sigh*, but Little still has to make the team imo. He’s a more natural deep threat target than anyone on the team. Easier for the QBs to throw the bomb to deep.

  • Elliot

I have stated that repeatedly. …but reggie prefers to keep his pick Brice who in my opinion is not worth it

  • _Mista_

He’s not a Gradkowski, Soup, or Manzell then!

    Cool.

  • BigBenRexor

I think you mean Criner, the 3rd year veteran who has yet to play a down in the NFL. Brice actually makes plays in preseason.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

You A’s fans crack me up. Beat the Giants in July and acted like you won the WS. Have a tough month in August and you act like the season is over.
How about you wait until the season is over before determining anything?

  • TrevJo

You mean the 3rd preseason game? 4th game is going to be mostly against scrubs that won’t make the final 53.
(Don’t get me wrong. Any progress is better than no progress.)

  • R8erEduc8er

That he will do. BUT, we have to keep the defense honest with the occasional deep pass. No one else on the roster scares a team deep. Probably won’t be throwing deep often with Schaub, but a guy like Carr needs Little.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Have you been posting here for the last 36 hours or did you just start when I logged in?

  • R8erEduc8er

Little will make the 53 man roster.

  • Elliot

No I meant brice….brice butler preseason hero….that’s it.. crinor? He is a figment of one’s imagination

  • TrevJo

He can’t catch and therefore has no value at WR. I don’t understand how people still fail to understand this concept in 2014.

  • _Mista_

Wristbands, how about you raved about Beane getting rid of Cespedes and now the trade is blowing up in his face, guru.

    Lets stay on topic moron.

  • TrevJo

Oh, so then he’s a threat to weaken our 53 man roster too. I guess that makes him a double threat.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

He’s been refreshingly silent for acouple hours just waiting for you, I guess!

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

Billy Beane is the only reason you guys are competing for anything.
And that trade wasn’t for July and August, it was for the postseason.
Beane is the best GM in baseball, hands down.

  • _Mista_

Just got done studying for an exam and 18 rounds of golf with my wristbands and jersey, why?

  • R8erEduc8er

He still can have a role on this team as a deep threat imo. He drops more than he should, but still has value….at least, with this WR corp.

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    3rd time on the GED?

  • _Mista_

Why dont you stick to your Giants since you dont know your azz from a hole in the ground?

    Ok wristbands?

    Dumb fkn dk.

  • BigBenRexor

But he’s not making millions, therefore he still has value for some reason i think.

  • JerryMcDonalds#1Fan

only on this blog do we have time to debate 5th WR’s, lol.. Butler, no Criner, no Little, no Roberts !!

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

    Or post DHB.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

I will remind you of this convo when the A’s are further along in the postseason then any other time the previous 10 years.

  • https://twitter.com/MimiPeepeechimi Just Fire Baby

    = obsessed
    Don’t bother responding

  • BigBenRexor

I’d keep Little on to use him as a Gunner on ST. He’s showed me in the Dallas fight he can get in peoples face and put stone hands on them.

  • TrevJo

Career Raiders’ WRs yards per reception:
    Holmes 16.4
    Moore 15.8
    Streater 14.9
    Jones 13.9
    Little 11.7
    Butler 11.4 (only 9 rec)

How anyone could think we need to keep Little because defenses are going to be scared of him deep is beyond me.

  • Silver&BlackBleeder

Brice was a rookie last year who hardly saw time ’till DMoore went thru his annual brain cramp fest. Ya’ll gotta give the kid some time. This is only his 2nd year. He’s gonna open some eyes this year. He’s arguably our 3rd best WR. Not saying much, but it is what it is.

  • Duct tape

God I feel that in the pit of my gut. Im scared youre right

  • R8erEduc8er

I don’t even think he had a concussion…just a way for DA to give him justified rest.

  • aig-raiders

same myth they gave us about dhb.
