Packers 31, Raiders 21

GREEN BAY, Wisc. – For the third straight game, the Raiders defense struggled out of the gate and the offense struggled, period, as the Green Bay Packers cruised to a 31-21 victory at Lambeau Field.
The loss goes away once the regular season starts. It’s unknown how long it’s going to take for the Raiders to get back projected starters Sio Moore, Nick Roach and Tarell Brown from the injuries they suffered Friday.
Moore’s injury appears to be the most serious of the three, given he left field on a stretcher after he hurt his neck early in the second quarter. He later got transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
Roach and Brown left the game with concussions in the first half and never returned.
Moore got hurt when he pursued a ball carrier and collided with a Packers blocker near the line of scrimmage.
Moore lay face down on the ground near midfield for several minutes while medical personnel from both teams tended to him.
Eventually, Moore’s head was secured to a body board, while he still donned his helmet. Moore gave fans a thumbs up as he was wheeled off the field. Fans responded with a hearty applause.
Moore is competing against Miles Burris for the starting job that Moore earned last season.
The Raiders matched the Packers through the first four drives, with each team scoring a touchdown on their first possession and then punting on their three successive series.
The Packers superior offensive talent prevailed from there, as quarterback Aaron Rodgers punctuated back-to-back scoring drives with touchdown passes.
Oakland’s offense misfired for most of the night with the starters on the field. The Raiders netted 60 yards on their first five drives. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew accounted for 40 of those on his touchdown run in the first quarter.
Raiders starting quarterback Matt Schaub completed his first three passes. He spent the rest of the first half trying to find a rhythm that never arrived.
Schaub completed 5 of 11 passes for 17 yards on his first six drives. It wasn’t until the Packers starters exited that Schaub moved the ball with much consistency.
Allen allowed Schaub to play into the third quarter, or long after Rodgers exited the game for the Packers.
The Raiders night was typified in one two-play sequence. Rookie cornerback TJ Carrie broke up a third-down pass for receiver Jordy Nelson in the end zone, only to have Rodgers come right back to Nelson on fourth-and-three for a touchdown against Carrie.
There were some positives for the Raiders. In particular, rookie linebacker Khalil Mack turned in his best outing after two so-so showings.
Mack recorded an interception of Matt Flynn in the second quarter. He also generated pressure on Rodgers a few times and notched five tackles.
But the overall team concerns remain, even as the season nears and time to fix the problems dwindles.
Friday’s game served to drive home that point.

– The Raiders committed seven penalties for 54 yards in the first half, when the starters dominated the playing time.

– Raiders running back Kory Sheets suffered an ankle injury midway through the third quarter on a play on which he fumbled. He was helped from the field.

– Rookie quarterback Derek Carr (concussion) and fullback Marcel Reece (foot) suited up and warmed up before the game. Reece played, while Carr watched.

– Matt McGloin connected with receiver Brice Butler for 19- and 28-yard touchdowns late in the game. They also hooked up for a 19-yard touchdown against the Lions in the previous game.

– Kicker Sebastian Janikowski didn’t play because of a sore right quadriceps. Kevin Goessling replaced Janikowski.

– Janikowski, defensive tackle Justin Ellis, offensive tackle Matt McCants, guard Lucas Nix, defensive tackle Justin Ellis, cornerbacks Taiwan Jones, DJ Hayden and Chimdi Chekwa and tight ends David Ausberry and Nick Kasa were scratched from the lineup before the game.

– For 15 players, this marked their final game with the Raiders. The first mandatory roster cutdown is Tuesday. Teams are obligated to pare their rosters to no more than 75 players by Tuesday afternoon. The deadline for teams to set their 53-man roster is Aug. 30.

– Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie spent 18 seasons with the Packers as part of their front office. He joined the Raiders in 2012.

– Raiders wide receiver James Jones spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Packers. He signed with the Raiders during the offseason.

Del rio from donks, harbaugh after they don’t go to the playoffs… Maybe Rex for the same..

  • Blackholepriest

I keep pulling for TP because I believe in him. But if he keeps going that I can’t. He hates giving up on a play but you gotta be smarter than that……..period

  • 0ak R8rs

Nice pass by Pryor. Chicago was only able to return the pick 20 yards. No score.

  • 2romes

I noticed if Schaub is not rolling out and able to dump off the pass quickly to his outlet, the play is pretty much dead. His pure pocket passing grades out at about average. With Schaub at the helm, if the OC and the receivers do pick it up, it could get pretty ugly.

    I thought Mack…Carrie..Thorpe and Woodley Played well…And of course..Mcgloin!

  • JV.

BS PI call on Thorpe… He played well tho.

  • inonewordraider

reggies bad moves (in my opinion of course):
    not retaining palmer
    not retaining veldheer
drafting bergstrom in the 3rd round
*dj was an excellent prospect, he trusted his docs

Quarterback Matt Schaub on team’s uneven play: “We better be close to being ready for the regular season here shortly.”

What the heck does he mean by that? Is it a threat…or panic…or what?

  • BOKNOWS

    And our line did nothing…

  • Dakota

Smh, any stats back u up on that?

if reggie had made all the right moves, in my opinion:
    veldheer Jackson wiz howard Watson
    streater jones moore
    rivera
    mjd
    palmer
our o would look a lot better

  • TrojansAndRaiders

Just repeat? No, man. Pete is building a football dynasty. I have no doubt theyll go down as the team of this decade. Theyre building what we are SUPPOSED TO HAVE HERE. People can say what they want, thats RAIDER football theyre playing up there.

I’m not saying everything is ok because it doesn’t look like it is.However, have you people been watching other practice games. Not many teams look very good.We look as good(or bad, however you want to put it) as a whole lot of teams.

  • Return

Said the same thing last week. The Hawks are the Raiders in screwed up uniforms.

  • 0ak R8rs

    Reggie’s bad moves IMO.

    Letting rookie HC hire OCs.
    The entire 2012 draft class.
    Drafting Haydone
Trading for Flynn and his tendinitis.
Extending Jano (although I agreed at the time)
    Trading for Schaub (hindsight)
    Two punters
Letting Jennings walk (but MJD looks good)
Not being goo or dynamic enough to get Houston and Veldheer interested in staying (not sure I wanted them anyway, but not the point)
Not having is to the point where FAs wanna be here either.

  • Dakota

    So how many wins?

  • kenchun24

I dig it, old school team like Harbaugh has the Whiners. Except Hawks are in the prime all around and Whiners D will fade. Playmaking D and a ground & pound O with the big play threat via the PA pass or Wilson getting 1st downs/TD’s on broken plays. If they do go all they way, hope the take out whatever pass happy/finesse football AFC squad (Manning, Brady etc…) makes it to the SB like 43-8.

  • DJ Johnny

I was listening to Packer radio postgame and man are these people full of it.

Announcer (to some rookie) : “Before you got here to Green Bay did you have any idea what this place was all about”?

Player: “You can’t really know it until you come here and experience it for yourself”.

  • marks hair

How many sacks did Penn give up? 1 or 2?
plus he looked bad against Green Bay’s backups
Barnes needs to stay on the bench
Our secondary and wrs are garbage
    Shobs arm is toast
    Missing anything?

  • 0ak R8rs

They r going to 75 on Tuesday. Pryor may not be there on Friday.

  • inonewordraider

qb wise we’re right there with the browns jags and Texans as the worse unfortunately. I know bortles looked good vs 2′s but even schaub looked good vs the 2′s

  • lefty12

    6-8 barring massive injuries.

  • Lowdown_in_Beijing

    two new posts fellas

  • 0ak R8rs

It’s not gonna last. Cap will get to them eventually. Although, it going up every year doesn’t help.

  • lefty12

He’ll be there.Wilson won’t play so they need bodies.

  • Blackholepriest

I like those young kids they got potential.

  • 2romes

Why hold Reggie accountable for making the Raiders competitive day one. He’s not Hue Jackson.

  • Dakota

Once they have to pay wilson, their talent level will dip.

  • 1960AutumnWind

Penn held up well against very good edge rushers. Missing it on that One.

  • 0ak R8rs

It was a dig at Priest. You ruined it.

  • lefty12

I was trying to build on your comment.

  • 1960AutumnWind

My over under stays at 6. DA on the bubble.

  • 0ak R8rs

Ah. I see it now. Well played. Haha.

  • Dakota

You going to defend them some more if we go 6-10? You think they, meaning DA and Reggie, will deserve another year if they win 6 games?

  • lefty12

    Always with the jokes.

  • 1960AutumnWind

Richardson better pick than Star… You need to get over Hue

  • lefty12

Depends on how they look.RM probably.DA not so much.He has to show he deserves the job this year.If he can’t-adios.
