Packers 8, Raiders 7 — end of first quarter

The Green Bay Packers wasted little time in putting the Raiders in a hole Friday night. In fact, they needed only seven plays to cover 73 yards and jump to an 8-0 lead at Lambeau Field.
Once again, the Raiders starting defense struggled against the opposing team’s first-string offense. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers spearheaded the drive with a 33-yard completion to wide open tight end Richard Rodgers on a third-and-2 play.
Running back Eddie Lacy handled the rest of the load. He rushed six times for 36 yards, with his final carry netting a 1-yard touchdown. The Packers converted the two-point attempt with a pass from Rodgers to Jordy Nelson.
The Raiders offense answered with an impressive drive of its own. Matt Schaub completed both his passes for 15 yards and running back Maurice Jones-Drew finished the job with a nifty 40-yard touchdown run on a third-and-one play.
Defensively, the Raiders stiffened after the Packers opening drive. They forced punts on back-to-back series and provided their offensive mates with favorable field position.
Linebacker LaMarr Woodley snuffed out the second of those failed Packers drives with a sack of Rodgers. Rookie linebacker Khalil Mack pressured Rodgers into fleeing the pocket.
By quarter’s end, both teams had scored a touchdown and punted three times.
Raiders fullback Marcel Reece, who has a sore right foot, played early in the game.

Thats, uhh, kinda tough to say. Compared to what?

  • 0ak R8rs

Haha. Penn just killed a Packer.

  • JV.

    Saw that too.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

WE need a receiver. Even on that last play, Moore could have taken one step to the outside and gained 10 more yards. ON a sideline fly pattern, he kept looking back for the ball really early and never got separation from his guy so Schaub held onto the ball and didn’t throw it. Doesn’t he know he can beat his guy if he just flat out runs?

  • R8erEduc8er

Pass d looked gd tonight. Rogers #s are terrible.

  • Dakota

Well, time to make predictions. We have seen the meaningful part of the preseason.

    5-11.

  • RaiderRo

I got to wait that long?! He better be there week 2 when I go to Oaktown

  • Gdog

Been saying it for awhile! Hope we have a QB to beat the 8 in the box!

  • lefty12

MJD and our run game can be a huge strenghth

  • DahlerStore

    Ha! Interesting spin.

  • R8erEduc8er

Offense can’t score and penalties. Defense looks fine.

Hard to run the ball, when the D doesn’t fear the pass. Hard to pass, when they don’t fear the run.

  • DahlerStore

    good lord

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Ugly, Need a wide screen to see where the receivers were.

  • Angelo DeBortoli

    Schaub has to go..

    Mack is stud

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    WOW

  • Angelo DeBortoli

sad really..I was hoping Schaub got hurt on that play

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Maybe Mack could go both ways–be a receiver.

  • Angelo DeBortoli

    lol

  • Howard Benner

Play, not go. . .don’t want to get their hopes up in the Castro. . .

  • Dan Walker

Think we should cut Schaub and go with the younger guys. Not showing anything in his most important game even though his supporting cast is not helping him. Turn everything over, play the young guys and hope they mature this year. Some very good talent on this team but they just won’t compete this year.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    Should have caught that ball.

  • Kenny Stapler

    Somebody catch the DAMN BALL!

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

god, even rivera has the dropsies.

  • saskraider

    i have had it

  • RaiderRo

That’s only with a Reggie QB playing

  • saskraider

been lurking on this site for about 6 years, this is the first time I have posted. thanks for all the entertainment over the years everyone. I do miss beech tho.

  • Angelo DeBortoli

Its possible the defense and the running game could make team a tough out week in and week out. But the Quarterback was awful tonight. If McGloin was the starting QB, I would bet the Raiders would have another TD

  • saskraider

    7 bud light limes deep.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

SIms knows the truth–we have no receivers. A guy like Schaub won’t win you games by himself, that’s for sure. We seem to have no offensive line right now either.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Until that O-line has jelled a little bit, I don’t even want to risk our future, CARR.

  • Dan Walker

Schaub has had 3 games, minimal time in the first two, but enough to show some spark. It just isn’t there. Time to move on. If we want to play with the big boys, Packers included, we need to have a better leader and Schaub isn’t that guy. McGloin should start and let Carr grow. Sign another potential QB who gets castoff at the cuts.

  • Dan Walker

This defense can’t compete, especially in the backfield.

  • Dan Walker

Sundays are going to be tough again this year…kind of getting tired of looking for games other than the Raiders to give me NFL entertainment. Guess my yard will be in better shape though.

  • Howard Benner

The OL will remain a problem in pass pro. . .in the fun game they should account for themselves better than tonight. . .Pach has a good defense; they aren’t going to allow anything on the perimeter. . .Peppers is rejuvenated & revitalized; lost 10 lbs. in the off season prepping for his conversion to OLB & indicated he plans to lose as much as 10 more. . .

But going up against the Seaslugs, albeit only for a series or two & then going to NJ to play the Jets, who as you know possess a formidable defense; hope they can turn it up about three notches when the lights, as they say go on. . .

But, yes, no separation from the WR’s. . .huge concern. . .

  • Dan Walker

All of our starters, minus Schaub, should play this entire game. Don’t worry about injuries. WOW…is Marcel Reece on our team or on the Packers. Like guys trying to throw a game. Any bets on this game that that drop would have benefitted?

  • irjonny

we need mcgloin to be playing these snaps. even the wide open throw to reece (who duh, should have caught it) had to stop, turn around and back peddle for the throw. i hate schaub
