Raiders QB Matt Schaub said he `absolutely, 100 percent” expects to be ready to start against Jets Week 1

Matt Schaub is still on track to the starting quarterback when the regular season opens Sept. 7 against the New York Jets, Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday.

Schaub missed his second straight day of practice with soreness in his throwing elbow, but Allen said he didn’t see it as a serious injury.

Neither does Schaub.

“It’s just something that’s kind of come up,’’ Schaub said. “It’s lingered a little bit. But it’s come up and we’re dealing with it. It’s something we want to take care of and get out of the way now before we start the regular season.

Asked if he expected to be ready to play in Week 1, Schaub said, “Absolutely. One-hundred percent. Absolutely.’’

As for Schaub missing two days of practice when the passing game needs a lot of work in all areas, Allen said, “You’d like to have everybody out there but you have to have some foresight in getting ready for opening day.’’

Asked about the similarities between Schaub’s situation and that of Matt Flynn, who lost his job to Terrelle Pryor after poor play and a sore elbow after the third preseason game, Allen said, “I don’t see those two situations as the same.’’

Said Schaub: “I don’t know what happened here last year. I don’t know what happened with anybody who was here last year. I just know myself and and what we’re going through right now to be ready for Week 1.’’

I still think we will do better this season. 7-9 looks good to me considering the change in personnel. Have Faith!
