Raiders quarterback Matt Schaub misses practice again

Quarterback Matt Schaub missed his second day of practice Monday, watching in a ball cap as the Raiders finished warm-ups and drills during the portion open to the media.

Coach Dennis Allen said Sunday Schaub had some elbow soreness.

Allen and Schaub are both scheduled to speak with the media following practice.

Players who were not practicing included linebacker Sio Moore (neck), linebacker Nick Roach (concussion), tackle Menelik Watson (hip flexor), cornerback Chimdi Chekwa (knee), tight end David Ausberry (knee) and cornerback Taiwan Jones (not disclosed).

Ausberry was working on a separate field along with cornerback DJ Hayden and Jones.

The Raiders must trip eight players from the roster by Tuesday at 1 p.m. Hayden and guard Lucas Nix are eligible to be placed on the physically unable to perform list at that time and then wouldn’t count toward the roster.

Two more players _ running back Kory Sheets (Achilles) and tight end Nick Kasa (torn ACL) are eligible to be placed on injured reserve and also wouldn’t count.

    He is there

  • M.Shorter

Yeah lol but Ive always been huge Hayden fan

  • JV.

Don’t we all.. Hasn’t made any impact in preseason.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

It’s not as bad as the Bradford situation. To think, the powers that be in St. Louis could have had their pick of qbs in the draft.

  • Dan78

    Just another 3 centuries…..

  • timetojam

It’s all about the draft. IF they got Mack, Carr, and Jackson right, everything will magically get better in a year or two

  • 1960AutumnWind

    First see below. :-)

  • Elliot

Yes but that was an outstanding catch by gillet and he had safety help there

  • JV.

Not as bad as St. Louis.. They think mark sanchize is the savior..

  • Al_is_theraiders

but slaub was an over 90% rated qb at one time a sure fire hofer…

  • M.Shorter

Threw straight practices working with the trainer. Thats good news.

  • SlvrnBlck478

He was doing work on the side. Encouraging to see. He won’t be put on the PUP list. I think he will be back to practice next week, get a little playing time against Jets and then start competing for his starting gig.

  • DutchRaid

Last draft pick without rookie salary cap also!

  • Elliot

Made one nice play in the backfield which he basically blew up the play and also a hit with dowling on a breakup at the goal line

  • SlvrnBlck478

Me too. If he can stay healthy he will justify his draft selection. The healthy part is a big if, though

  • JLofty

There is absolutely zero connection or similarity between Matt Swabby and Matt Flynn…

  • JV.

@Jerrymcd: Tomorrow’s Raiders cut from 83 to 75 shouldn’t be dramatic. If Hayden/Nix go to PUP and Sheets/Kasa to IR, that’s four right there.

    KEEP FIELDS

  • DutchRaid

Face-saving? Don’t have to cut him, nor carry him on the roster and have to cut a player/position of need and at week 7 you can give him an injury settlement b/c his arm didn’t recover.

  • DJ Johnny

Matt Ryan, Luck, Big Ben, Flacco…Bradford…all of them led their teams to the playoffs year 1 after their teams struggled the yr before they arrived. Guys like to say they played for “great teams” but how “great” could they have been if they were so bad the yr before?

Make of it what you will. I’m sure many said the same things about these guys..”Won’t be able to adjust to NFL defenses” etc. etc.

  • SlvrnBlck478

They will have to cut 5. Nix, Sheets, and Kasa to PUP/IR.

  • lefty12

Carrie also gave up a TD

  • R8erEduc8er

    McGill goes to PS.

  • the super genius dr robert

i really shouldn’t even reply to u since ur so ignorant but….

no one said he was a hofer. that’s u and the pryor liars.

    90% rated? are u a woman or just dumb? it’s called a 90 rating. not 90%.

    smh.

  • JV.

    Criner, Cornell..

  • Howard Benner

A fourth round draft choice? Somebody is bound to pick him up. . .

  • http://batman-news.com 559 Raider 87

Why would we even considering IRing Nix? Just cut him outright

  • JV.

    Terelle Thomas available again

  • M.Shorter

    Agreed

  • FourMoreYears

Hayden/Nix to PUP and Sheets/Kasa to IR, then Bergstrom, Little, Criner, and GA3. I too am also ok with cutting Nix outright instead.

  • Howard Benner

he was primarily a safety in college. . .doing the “Nnamdi” shuffle. . .this will take awhile. . .

  • RaiderCDE

Cut Sheets and Nix. No reason to pay them to sit on IR. There will be plenty of better options on the waiver wire can sign to futures contracts much cheaper.

  • timetojam

Ryan, Bradford – studs in college. Predictable NFL success
Luck – megastud in college, had no bad games. Very predictable success
Ben, Flacco – great defense before they got there

While it’s possible Carr can play up to Bradford or Ryan, he was one or two levels below them in college. And, since we have a horrible defense, there’s not much to expect there. Bottom line – going to take more than one year to turn this around

  • lefty12

Bergs played well at RG with the second team. Why cut him, because Reggie drafted him ?

  • FourMoreYears

Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t he have to go to IR so he can get his injury settlement when he gets cut?

  • Howard Benner

Plunkett & Snake aren’t in the hall & you think Schaub had a chance b4 last season?!

I hope you are being facetious. . .

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

    Exactly.

  • FourMoreYears

No, cut him because he doesn’t play football good.

  • Howard Benner

    Pass 2.0. . .

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Might as well PUP NIx. He won’t cost us a roster spot, and we may need him down the line.

  • RaiderCDE

Isnt there a waived/injured or is that after IR?

  • SlvrnBlck478

Atkinson, larry asante, and Karl Williams

  • Elliot

    Yes, pass please…next

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

For vets like Nix and Sheets, I think it’s IR only. Then an injury settlement can be worked out later.

  • 1960AutumnWind

Can’t do pup till after week 4 according to Hansen

  • aig-raiders

I go by the “you knows”

  • R8erEduc8er

He needs to go to the PS, because he won’t be contributing anything to the team this year unless it’s on ST…but you’re right, might have to stash him on the 53.

  • lefty12

Did you watch him Friday night?

  • DJ Johnny

I don’t see how a “great’ defense winds up with a losing record. Those rookies must have been really good to suddenly elevate an offense that failed to win with “great defenses”.

  • R8erEduc8er

We may need him to give up sacks down the line?

  • http://batman-news.com 559 Raider 87

Ok didnt know it worked like that. So we have to IR Nix and then we can cut him, is that how it works?
