The Raiders are still without starting middle linebacker Nick Roach, who sustained a concussion on Aug. 22 against the Green Bay Packers in the third preseason game.
Chimdi Chekwa, who would probably be the Raiders third cornerback in nickel situations, also is still out with a knee injury. Roach was a spectator during the media practice window Tuesday and Chekwa was not present.
If Roach can’t play against the New York Jets in the regular-season opener, Kaluka Maiava would be the likely starter in the middle. Chewka’s absence would probably be filled by either rookie TJ Carrie or Neiko Thorpe. Carlos Rogers, a starter at cornerback along with Tarell Brown, would move to slot corner on nickel downs with either Thorpe or Carrie playing outside.
Special teams gunner Taiwan Jones, however has returned from a knee strain. Tight end David Ausberry (knee) was on the field for the second consecutive day, this time in a full-padded practice, as was weak side linebacker Sio Moore.
Raiders coach Dennis Allen and quarterback Derek Carr will address the media following practice. Matt Schaub will be available in the locker room, according to a team spokesman.
