First confirmed candidate has interviewed for Raiders head coaching job

Share

Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell is the first candidate confirmed to have interviewed with the Raiders for their head coaching position.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told SiriusXMNFL radio Wednesday that Bevell interviewed “the other night.” Given the Seahawks have a first-round bye in the NFC Playoffs, Bevell is permitted to interview with other teams this week.
Bevell and Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn figure to be hot candidates as a result of the Seahawks sustained success. The Seahawks won the Super Bowl last season, and they are prohibitive favorites to do so again this season.
Bevell, who turns 45 on Tuesday, has spent the past four seasons as the Seahawks offensive coordinator. He was the Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator for five seasons before he joined the Seahawks.
Bevell also spent six years with the Green Bay Packers, from 2000-05, when Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie was part of the Packers personnel department.
Bevell has worked with Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson, among others, during his coaching career. He was the quarterbacks coach his final three seasons with the Packers, the last of which he worked with Favre and Rodgers.
The Raiders have not confirmed Bevell’s visit. It’s uncertain who interviewed Bevell and whether it was by phone or in person. Owner Mark Davis has said that he is going to be more involved in this coaching search than he was when McKenzie hired Dennis Allen in 2012.
Tony Sparano replaced the fired Allen four games into the 2014 season, and he remains in contention for the full-time job. He guided the Raiders to three wins in their final six games after the Raiders started 0-10.
Beyond Bevell, it’s unclear if Sparano or any other candidates have been interviewed yet.
Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, 49ers tight ends coach Eric Mangini, Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton have been targeted by the Raiders, according to numerous reports since the Raiders season ended Sunday.
Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio is another person likely to be contacted by the Raiders in the coming days.

Bro that is some in-depth reporting by you right there.. (golf-clap) good work

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

I like your idea more than the narrower posts.

  • JLofty

wth time zone are you in?
Today is Friday. Tomorrow is Saturday.
    I’m confused…

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    Excellent!

  • RaiderDebo

Hasn’t gotten there yet. Did you see that guy at the end of the season?

  • Raiders for Life

Tarver and Olson’s contract runs out in a few weeks. Those guys are looking for new jobs.

  • SnBG

He’s what we need.. Carr needs help so Shrek will draft Cooper if he can. He wanted Watkins last year but he was gone. In the second we need another DT or take a shot at Suh or Dan Williams In the third we need to grab a CB or get A. Cromardie in Free Agency. He could be had at a price Shrek likes.

  • HELLSBELLS

    Would rather have Lynch.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Anyone know off hand who TS’s co-ordinators were at Miami?

  • RaiderDebo

Yep, game planning to deliver Cincy its 1st playoff win in over a decade.

  • Gdog

True. His YPC hasn’t changed much yet. Still buyer beware!

  • GG

    You’re confused?!!!

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Well, that sentence is quite contradictory.

  • GG

Good chance they like Bevell or Shurmur. But might wait a little. Hedging his bet there.

    Let’s hope it’s Shurmur.

  • Raiders for Life

I don’t think so. Raiders trade down if Cooper is there. Still get a shot at Parker or White.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

They have interviews with other teams though, as well.
If you like a guy and you wait, you will probably lose him.

  • HELLSBELLS

Not really, they have made up there mind but have to wait for the team to be eliminated. Bowles or Bevell is my guess.

  • JLofty

I’d like just to win more games than i can count on my middle fingers.
    Two in row.
    One just ONE away game.
    Fkn Raiders….

  • jesusraiderjim

Bet she will do it for less than 8 million a year too

  • JLofty

he can’t this week anyway. they don’t have a bye…

  • Dakota

Why the hard on for that dullard?

  • GG

    Eagles are eliminated 😉

  • SnBG

The hot topic here is the new HC but really the real issue for the team is to draft well and get one or two good fa’s. Then a new HC or Bada can have a chance to win some games.

  • JLofty

    good for them…..

  • GG

QB Whisperer. O-minded. Has learned Kelly’s system. Can hybrid and borrow. Bevell hasnt done anything brilliant. The Hawks O is just dependant on Lynch. No real wrinkles in their O system. Zone Blocking scheme too.

  • jesusraiderjim

    new post BIOTCHES

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

Does that mean, then, that either B or B has accepted the offer? A gentleman’s agreement?

I doubt it because they are continuing to interview and these guys have other teams interested as well.

  • Kenny Stapler

    Thanks Chuey

  • Dakota

I heard the players walked all over him in cleveland.

  • 619raider

    Lets all hope so.

  • 504 Raider

    OC Dan Henning
    DC Mike Nolan
    Asst HC/Secondary Todd Bowles

  • the astonishing dr robert

    That’s marvin Lewis’s job.

    Hue is the help.

  • Howard Benner

I think the Raiders trade out of that pick. . .almost all Raider fans like Cooper. . .Tim Brown really likes Cooper. . .probably reminds him of himself. . .

The Raiders will probably trade out of that pick. . .but the Raiders should have drafted either Paul Richardson, donte Moncrief or Martavis Bryant last year. ..then they would only have had to added a FA WR in the upcoming FA period. . .stupid Reggie

  • Craig

I think Williams looks great. I think he can be a true playmaker/wrecking ball. That’s also why I think he’ll go 2nd overall to the Titans, and if not, 3rd overall to the Jags. Gregory, Ray, Beasley are some edge rushers in the vein of Dion Jordan and Jarvis Jones. Can maybe make a difference after developed, but definitely not Kahlil Mack territory.
