Mark Davis flies to another state for interview with coaching candidate

Share

Raiders owner Mark Davis interviewed Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio on Sunday, according to the Denver Post.
Davis met with Del Rio in Denver, where Del Rio and the Broncos are preparing for their first playoff game. The Post cited two unnamed sources.
There was a rush for Davis to get to Del Rio before Sunday night because of league rules that prohibit candidates from teams still in the playoffs from being interviewed again until their teams’ seasons is over or during the bye week between the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl.
Del Rio, 51, posted a 68-71 record in nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003-11. He has been the Broncos defensive coordinator the past three seasons.
Coincidentally, Del Rio got hired by the Broncos as a result of the Raiders hiring Dennis Allen to be their head coach in 2012. Allen was fired after the Raiders went 8-28 in his two-plus seasons.
Del Rio joins Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur as the only candidates known to have interviewed so far.
The Raiders reportedly are interested in meeting with interim coach Tony Sparano, Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, 49ers tight ends coach Eric Mangini and Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton
Bowles now is free to meet with the Raiders, and be hired, without any time constraints, given the Cardinals got knocked out of the playoffs this weekend.

He is. Talked with #Raiders, too RT @gsykes34: @RapSheet Oh please tell me McCloughan is interested! Would be extraordinary for #Redskins!

    This might be something…hopefully…

  • The Ghost of Dave Casper

Shanahan? I don’t know what to think anymore. Black is white. Up is down. We’re through the looking glass, people.

Does beurline hate the raiders rs?

    Some tweet by a reporter.

  • tuckrulefool

He should be hired but wont…MD too cheap…2 GMS? forgetaboutit

  • DJ Johnny

To be fair, Shanahan isn’t much of a hot candidate right now. I haven’t heard him linked to any other openings…except Chicago…and that’s only if they want to continue to go all in with Cutler.

  • RTF916

Neither Rams or Raiders will work in LA. LA needs an expansion team that new hipster LA will get behind.

    Lol. It’s thunderdome!

True. Mark Davis is not his dad RT @NBCdianna: Former Redskins HC Mike Shanahan also interviewed with Oakland Raiders as well as with 49ers

    blog meltdown ensues

  • Raidman

Man, we can dream can’t we? Move RM up to a VP position and bring in McCloughan as GM….

  • Leonel Varela

what was the name of that guy that called games with madden that hated AL to?… he would be the new Raiders official voice…

  • RTF916

Similar pictures leaked yesterday with him and Chris Christie.

  • RaiderCDE

the current division structure is maxed out – in order to expand NFL would have to reorg the divisions again – or add 8 new teams (one for each division)

  • Raidman

lol…there’s some serious schist that happened with Al vs Shanny back in the days…I am not sure about this one….

  • RTF916

League cares more about money than stupid divisions.

  • RTF916

They’ll put five teams in one division, two in another. They don’t care. Whatever makes $$$.

  • aaahhhhhhhh that is music to my ears

  • Nosferatu Man

Got retweeted by kawakami, shefler also reporting. Just that he interviewed.

  • GreatWhiteRaider

Im pretty sure he had a spat with Al over money or something like that and wasn’t happy with how he was treated and didn’t leave on the best of terms.

  • Leonel Varela

fitz know he is not going to receive that kind of money anywhere, not with the cards or any other team, he has become a number 2 at best more likely a 3…

I’m starting to feel like Pesci in this scene.

RTF will not be deterred by Facts and Details

  • the cool jock ladies man dr ro

@ bullsheetnrws It’s just been reported that Mark Davis has requested an interview with “old age”. Apparently he has no problems hiring the thing that killed his father.

  • RTF916

FACT: NFL cares more about money than….division alignment.

It also looks as if #Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie didn’t go w/ owner Mark Davis to interview Jack Del Rio this past weekend. Hmmm

  • Elliot

Rapoport confirmed shanahan interviewed with Mark

  • Guest123

Mark could have taken Raleigh, told him to stay quiet. No one would have been the wiser.

  • BigBenRexor

Mark gave Reggie back his Waiver Wire privleges to keep him distracted.

  • Zymurge

I think you read that the wrong way. I’m not dissing his accomplishments or focus on the running game. Just saying that his offensive successes to date is by riding top tier RBs hard to the extent that passing is secondary.

Now it could very well be that he is the primary reason his RBs have done so well. AP hasn’t slowed down since Bevell left Minn, but then he is AP after all. Lynch on the other hand didn’t really meet his potential arguably until paired with Bevell.

The thing with the Raiders current situation is that they are (as of this year) a pass first offense and have personnel more attuned to that. Bevell hasn’t shown that he can work in that mode, so bringing him in is either a big risk or means having to retool the offense with a more run oriented OL, finding a great back (could be Murray who physically fits the Lynch/AP mold) and asking Carr to hand it off a lot more often, possibly playing away from his strength. Retooling also means more time, but there is the current off season and money to spend to get there, so it’s not unfeasible.

This week on the new cop show “Facts and Details”, John Facts and his new partner Jim Details doggedly pursue longtime enemy RTF in Sacramento but find that he won’t be deterred!

  • RaiderDAV

totally agree! This from a person that lives in LA, LA has become TRANSPLANT City, there’s no more True Angelenos. I would love if the Raiders would be here in LA but I do feel they belong in Oakland, hopefully a stadium is built up there, LA DOESNT NEED THE NFL, we have survived without it for 20 years now, Hipsters and Transplants just care of that Materialistic LA Lifestyle, no team will ever get any type of approval unless its an expansion, love my city but have to be REAL, nothing but Hipsters here now.

  • inonewordraider

no freakin way this can’t be true, what the f is mark thinking, or if it’s reggie fire him for this!

    New post!

  • 1960AutumnWind

Now that is interesting if true. I wish our local guys had contacts to confirm this stuff.

  • Zymurge

Hey, did Tafur read my post below about 30 minutes ago? 🙂

  • RTF916

Mark acting like his father perfectly explains the 4-12, 4-12, 3-13 records.

  • 2romes

    Pretty good stuff!

    lol

  • RTF916

LA is a different place. And, sadly, even old LA had given up on the Raiders in ’94.

  • 1960AutumnWind

Man I was hoping him and Charlie would take day off.
