Raiders seek permission to interview coordinator of hot offense

Share

The Raiders have requested permission to speak with Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, according to an ESPN report Sunday.
Linehan, 51, posted an 11-25 record as the St. Louis Rams coach from 2006-08. He got fired four games into his third season, just as Dennis Allen did with the Raiders this season.
Linehan is in his first season with the Cowboys, and he has received a lot of credit for turning the Cowboys offense into one of the league’s most explosive units.
Running back DeMarco Murray led the league in rushing, wide receiver Dez Bryant caught 88 passes for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns and quarterback Tony Romo led the league with a 113.2 passer rating.
Overall, the Cowboys finished fifth in the league with an average of 29.2 points per game, a figure the Raiders didn’t reach even once in 16 games.
The Raiders already have interviewed Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.
Raiders interim coach Tony Sparano, Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, 49ers tight ends coach Eric Mangini. Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio also are being targeted by the Raiders.

  • J Hill

And I’m even more surprised that Luck’s caddy Hamilton is getting HC consideration.

  • Nick Gancayco

Yup. 100% guaranteed. Then he could blow out his arm and still see every cent of that contract

  • M.Shorter

I completely agree. As I stated before, Mark should be looking for Vp’s right now instead of HC’s. That way the VP can decide on Reggie. Mark leave the football decisons to the VP and possiby a new GM.

  • eastoaklandraider

So obvious. You almost have to be special not to understand, or just don’t want to admit it like you said.

  • 1960AutumnWind

    Any CBs in ICR?

  • Thec

    Cigarette dude is coming out…

  • PlunkforHOF

    In a Hong Kong second.

  • Raider_Riff

Notice how this coaching search is going?

It’s bottom of the barrel fishing. Nobody wants to come here.

Hue is a good coach. He WANTED to be here.

Show me one good coach that has WANTED to come here since Mark/Reggie took over? This org is as toxic as ever.

    – cheap owner wont spend in FA
    – dumb owner keeps flirting with LA, that will never happen, but either way, new HC has to be ok with the possible move
    – new HC also has to be ok with possible ownership change once NFL gets it’s way and Mark eventually sells
    – new HC has to be ok with a dummy for a GM in Reggie dictating scheme (WCO)
    – new HC has to be ok with one of the least talented rosters in NFL history

This coaching search is a complete joke.

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

    Agreed
This crap just goes on and on.

  • With it way less likely his career drastically effects his health later in life

  • Thec

Doubt reg could have worked with huge….should have kept huge.

  • M.Shorter

Exactly. Reggie signing players to future contracts and he doesn’t he know who our coaches are going to be.

  • Thec

Gresham, and Green not playing….need your makers.

  • The Machine

Dude Al wouldn’t give Gruden the keys to the roster, much less the franchise. That is why Gruden said no mas. By the looks of it, Al’s plan was that he didn’t have a succession plan. He was swinging wildly, spending so much money, he sold off 120 million worth of the team off to fund the free agent spree. He wanted another run before he left, and when it didn’t happen, Mark was left picking up the pieces. And Al didn’t equip Mark for the job.

  • 1960AutumnWind

If you haven’t noticed I have been saying the same thing about it for quite some time except I use actual contract examples and illustrations of cap vs cash flow to prove my point.

  • Surgery = 3 and out

  • Nick Gancayco

I was just think ing he same thing

  • Blackholepriest

    Pretty simple really. ..

  • Stabler

But he does have to worry about men hitting .300 hitting every week if he is playing baseball.

  • J Hill

Not after that embarrassing last game.

    I wouldn’t.

  • Raider_Riff

    VPs cost money.

And VPs still have to play within the rules that Mark has set forth. Reggie agreed to them, not many else would.

This was Reggie’s one shot at a GM job. Nobody ever would or will give him this role EVER again. So he took it, even tho the owner basically said, blow this up and “no, I wont let u rebuild thru FA at all”.

The draft is all Reggie has got, and he’s not that good at that. Even if he was good, he’d have to hit home runs with every pick year after year. It’s an impossible task.

Couple that with the toxic situation not allowing for any relevant HC coming in. Were fvked.

  • Blackholepriest

Like East said get someone better then we can all move on. Until then it is what it is

  • J Hill

They played when the Bangles put up 3 points.

  • Stabler

Actually I’m pleasantly surprised it’s middle of the barrel fishing this year.

I’d like to see Mark hit a home run and hire Urban Meyer. Odds of that are zero, of course.

  • Thec

He runs the risk of dropping like lienert if he doesnt….his current groupie circle should talk some sense into him.

  • marks hair

If Williams is gone I think I’m taking Ray. Von millerish with more speed. We’ll have a sick 3/4

  • Raider_Riff

No worries. I didnt see u said that stuff.

We discussed it at length and broke it all down the other night. All the financials and stuff. The way these contracts are being signed is a obvious tell as to Mark’s intentions.

I think we are on the same page u and I.

  • AlDavisJr

    new post

  • Under a minute

  • 1960AutumnWind

Bowles? Beville? Even Del Rio are all serious desirable candidates. I even like Schumur as a dark horse.

  • Dakota

    New post

  • Paper Tiger

But what about Ray Ray? That’s one Ray too many!

  • Thec

Diffrent ball game….they have been moving the ball without em, did they have a runnung game.? Did they have other injuries?

  • M.Shorter

If that’s the case then Mark needs to sell. Until we start running like a real NFL organization, results will stay the same.

  • The Big Banana

Agree. Coaching search hasn’t been all that bad and some up and comers interviewed like Bevell, the guy I wanted.

  • marks hair

we can call him slow Ray

  • Blackholepriest

When you have damn good women and you dump her for nut you thought looked good. That women will be on your mind until you either get her back or get someone who can make you forget her…..period

  • inonewordraider

huh? harbaugh declined offers, bevell is a hot candidate and del rio wants to be here per your argument

  • Raider_Riff

Mark didnt want this job. He was never cut out for it.

But yes, Al did try to get Gruden back. Before settling on Hue. Gruden was always supposed to be the succession plan.

Jon wasnt patient enough. Al wanted to groom him. They fought too much. TB made a offer Al almost had to take. And Al could never get Gruden back in the building despite wanting too. He hoped that after time had passed maybe hatchets could be buried.

Al and Chucky were made for each other. It’s both poetic and tragic that they never reconciled and worked together again.

  • Raider_Riff

    Bingo.

But truth be told, we are running like other franchises. We’re in it for the profits.

We just have smaller margins than most, so we have much less to spend on FAs. But make no mistake, Mark is far from broke.

I think he is prepping for a sale. Everything he’s doing is a copy of past franchises in prep of a move or sale.

  • Raider_Riff

Bowles is using us as a warmup for his real interviews.

Heck, u could say he is interviewing us far more than we are interviewing him.

He will not come here. He’s got better options elsewhere.

  • 1960AutumnWind

Take the beer googles off Priest.

  • PlunkforHOF

    You bastard.

  • The Machine

Where are you getting all this stuff from? Please don’t tell me you pulled it out of your azz. Because I have never heard one confirm-able piece of info about Al trying to get Gruden back.m

  • Raider_Riff

Exactly. Harbaugh turned us down. As did Gruden.

We can make offers, doesnt mean we will actually get them.

The only guys that seem interested genuinely are Del Rio & Sporano. That is a sad reality.

  • J Hill

    Huebrus = decent OC.

    That’s about it, man.

  • StrongGrogCharlie

    No THAT would be something.

  • Thec

    Your opinion…
