Raiders interview coach off 49ers staff

Share

The Raiders interviewed 49ers tight ends coach Eric Mangini on Monday, the Associated Press reported.
That came one day after the Raiders interviewed long-time NFL coach Mike Shanahan, who had stints with the Raiders, Broncos and Washington, and Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton.
Mangini, 43, has five years of head coaching experience with the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns with a career record of 33-47. He came to the 49ers in 2013 as a senior offensive consultant before coaching tight ends in 2014.

eee..no. Here is a pretty good writeup.

Zone blocking in the running game is when two or three offensive linemen work
in tandem as opposed to each offensive lineman having a specific, predetermined
man to block. Zone blocking involves the center, guard, tackle and tight end
working in combination to block an area with an emphasis on double-teaming the
defensive linemen who are aligned on the line of scrimmage.

The concept is for two adjacent linemen to come off in unison and attack a
defensive line to the play side or to the side the ball carrier is going. The
advantage, as opposed to man blocking, is that you create a double-team with two
players blocking one defensive lineman. This allows the offensive linemen to be
aggressive because he knows he has help if his defensive lineman was to pinch
inside. It also provides movement at the point of attack, which can open creases
    for the running back.

Zone blocking initially starts out as a double team at the point of attack on
the down defensive linemen, but the beauty of it is that one of the offensive
linemen will leave to attack the linebacker while one stays to take over the
defensive lineman. The key is for the two offensive linemen working in unison to
double-team the defensive lineman to decide who and when one of them will leave
to block the linebacker. In the diagram below, we show the offensive line
starting the initial double team on the defensive lineman.

You’re still trying to argue it? You’re wrong dude let it go lol

  • RTF916

We hired back Trask and Herrera?

  • Miamiraider78

For those of you unfamiliar with the Denver offensive line scheme, they use a technique known as “zone blocking”. In a “man” or “drive” blocking scheme the lineman is responsible for an individual, and the play is designed for a running back to hit a particular gap. The zone blocking scheme, on the other hand, has a lineman blocking an area instead of a designated defensive player. If multiple linemen are blocking an area than one can break off and block into the second level.

    New post.

Most owners do not base their decisions on what fans want. Pro sports is unique in that it’s not just entertainment, winning and losing plays a role in the success of franchises, too. Anyone who leaves comments at a blog like this thinking it will influence anyone higher up with a franchise is crazy.

omg. u could not be more wrong and ur telling me ur giving me a lesson?

i’ve coached it in high school and been taught by college coaches.

i know u never played so u need to realize ur embarrassing urself and learn.

u think the holes are prescribed how?

are u aware that the holes are called based on a numbering system of the gaps between the OL?

u say blocking head on for a hole is impossible? are u serious?

    that’s why they shoot gaps!

pushing defenders backwards is what u want to do with a power scheme! the holes are BETWEEn the OL!

u think zone blocking is pushing guys forward in front of u?

good grief man, u have it ENTIRELY backwards.

  • BigBenRexor

The most EPIC nonsense battle is about to take place below. Many brain cells will be left on the Battle Field

  • RTF916

I’m referring to the difference in criticism between the two. It’s noteworthy. And it’s not disrespect to the dead. Our former GM was Al Davis. It’s impossible to discuss anything related to Raiders’ general management without eventually getting around to him.

  • BigBenRexor

RTF and Dr. Rob are having a battle of Nitwits below, Any breaking news will have to wait.

  • RAY NJ

Not sure any of us can afford that.

  • Miamiraider78

Don’t even waste your time. Lol

  • RTF916

The only candidate, GM or coach, worth doing that for that we’ve entertained so far is Mike Shanahan.

  • RTF916

    2-14.

  • JLofty

That would immediately raise the cumulative IQ at Raiders HQ…

  • the comedy genius dr robert

u would learn a lot by reading my posts nimrod.

    i’m explaining schemes to him.

meanwhile, like all fools, ur ignoring it being ur typical guffawing donkey-faced buffoon self.

  • RTF916

    Shell’s Raiders were 2-14.

Reggie/Sparanos won three this year, and the three wins came in the final six games, making them .500 over the last six. Signs of improvement going into the following season. Certainly none of that going into ’07.

  • RAY NJ

    LOL!!

  • The Ghost of Dave Casper

I feel dumber having just scrolled through some of it.

  • RTF916

    And the losses.

  • PapaJohn

Who ever the Raiders hire will need more talent to work with to win games consistently…..at least 2 years of solid drafts and FA acquisitions……. It wouldn’t kill me to extend Sparano’s contract one year, keep McKenzie….. and make the 2016 season (playoffs) the make or break season for Sparono……A strong foundation will have been built, and a coaching change then ( if needed) will be more help than hurt.

  • JLofty

Getting close to impossible to achieve that dumb@$$

  • RAY NJ

    How about Hue?

  • BigBenRexor

There is a price to pay for Entertainment. Think of it as reality TV, yes you will be dumber for having watched it, but it’s a guilty pleasure to watch other embarrass themselves.

  • JLofty

Good strategy, maybe we can stretch out to 6-10 and one victory away from the Oakland Coliseum….

  • WILLY91137

If you know so damn Smart way don’t you go get a job has a GM for some NFL team I’m sure you’d make more money than you’re making now

  • the comedy genius dr robert

u would feel more informed about schemes if u read mine.

  • FourMoreYears

“I don’t know how it works AT ALL but I know Greg Papa is wrong.”

That exactly sums up your original comment which started this whole f*ckarow.

  • The Ghost of Dave Casper

You seem to have the better of the argument. I don’t know a hell of a lot about blocking schemes and don’t pretend to.

  • RTF916

Guess that would put your IQ in the negatives.

  • RTF916

There’s a price to pay for couples not using protection, either. Look in the mirror.

  • RTF916

Will… you say this to everyone here offering their opinions on the Raiders and the NFL in general, or just the people who don’t agree with you?

  • the comedy genius dr robert

embarrassing for u to say that since i’m absolutely correct.

making urself look ignorant. as usual.

  • the comedy genius dr robert

there’s not an argument. i know what it is and he’s way wrong.

    several posters knew immediately.

    i tried to explain it.

  • NYCRaider

only thing out of context is Your constant lies and misrepresentations. Must suck that i keep exposing you and any although I dont live in anyones basement, any basement would be a palace in comparison to the rat hole you live in . Forget about housing its your stupidity and lies that always gets you in trouble. EXPOSED once again

  • Oak R8rs

I’ve never lied or misrepresented anything. I have been wrong. As have you, quite more often actually. Must be impossible to be as dumb as you.

  • aig-raiders

Silver hated Al Davis. Wrote such a bad article regarding Al that he got banished from Raiderland.

  • RaiderReloader

he is a non factor most of the time, or getting pushed into back field.

  • Cervantes74

Great Quote…But knowing the enemy and going to them for their opinion are 2 different things…Love the Art of War.

  • Cervantes74

Not the point. Shanahan left on bad terms, coached a division rival, rubber our faces in it as much as possible, and at his last stop was 24-40. His day has come and gone put that with the history and schmenemy becomes a decision unbecoming of an owner. Now if md had said, ‘I’ll talk to whom ever I dam well please.’ That I can respect.

  • The Ghost of Dave Casper

Down to where you were born, then?

  • Raider Bong

mangini coached the 49ers TEs, and VD had his worst season as a pro. yup, mangini sounds like he knows what hes doing!

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

So, Fangio told the Niners, either hire Shanahan or me as head coach or I’m gone.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

The guy DOES know the game.
