Browns interested in two Raiders assistant coaches

Share

The Cleveland Browns requested permission from the Raiders so that they can interview assistant coaches Al Saunders and John DeFilippo for their offensive coordinator vacancy.
The Browns have an opening at offensive coordinator because Kyle Shanahan asked out of his contract earlier this week. Saunders and DeFilippo are the latest candidates added to the Browns list, according to NFL Network.
Greg Roman, the 49ers offensive coordinator the past four seasons, is slated to meet with the Browns on Monday for their offensive coordinator opening.
DeFilippo has coached quarterbacks with the Raiders the past five seasons. He also was with the Raiders in the same capacity in 2007-08. Saunders has coached for more than 30 years in the NFL, including the past four with the Raiders.
Saunders’ experience extends to being an NFL head coach as far back as 1986. He also has been an offensive coordinator for several teams, including for the Raiders in 2011.
The Browns’ request seems to be a formality, given the contracts of Saunders and DeFilippo, as well as the other Raiders assistant coaches, expire Tuesday.

    Finally some hope!!!!!!

You can blame AD for all his faults. And u wont get an argument from me.

But stop acting like Mark and Reggie have made things better. That is where ur argument (whatever it is) loses all credibility.

MANY qualified people wanted the Raiders GM job after Al passed. Mark gave it to the guy with the least amount of qualifications and it shows. Now? Nobody wants the job.

Our team wasnt talented when Al died. But we are LESS talented today. The record shows that.

The cap is one VERY small part of this equation.

Mark messed up in hiring Reggie
MD/RM messed up all their coaching decisions
MD wont spend in FA (and he has the money, dont be fooled)
RM has picked horrible areas to address in FA
RM drafting hasnt been as good as u myopic fans want to believe it’s been.

The hole that theyve created is impossible to get out of any time soon.

Again, with all the mistakes Mark & Reggie have made, how in the world can you believe they will all of a sudden start showing better judgement? That’s not the way life works.

In any other sport or walk of life, a GM would be fired and share holders would be asking for the CEO’s head.

You can blame Al all you want. But Mark is about to be on his 4th HC in just over 3 years. When did Al ever do such madness?

Mark isnt qualified for this job. He just isnt. He ran out the CEO, Amy Trask, and now we dont have anyone spearheading the stadium efforts. We dont even have a team lawyer or team banker!

Mark has a smaller staff today working for him than Al did! Did u know that?

And his profits are 8x what Al usually was making. Mark is pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes!

Just answer me one question…. what is Mark qualified to do, in any walk of life? What would u say his skill set is and what would u hire him to do?

    Raiders streak with new blood:

    Norv, Kiffin, Cable, Hue, DA

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Here we go Pep, Pep, here we go!!!

  • Hope_Is_Futile

Yep, that was McGloin’s big mistake.

    Shoulda ran the #12.

  • Thec

Aw come on man, have some fun…lol

  • The Friendliest Alex7

most QBs have losing records in the playoffs.

very rare that you’ll go win the Super Bowl often and have multiple wins without a loss

  • r8dercain

    Thats my choice too

  • Sir Raider Duck, OMS

Because Del Rio would let him call his own offense instead of running everything through Garrett. After that, it’s up to Mark to open his wallet and pay the man.

  • the comedy genius dr robert

Try it. U might like it.

  • Thec

I have to admit, taken from your playbook….

  • Hope_Is_Futile

    This list.

  • Leonel Varela

they are going to resign him I think, he was a big part of their success this year, besides Jerry has been reluctant to extend Garret, maybe he is looking at Linehan as his replacement…

  • Purvisman/Eternal Optimist

Sounds good. Just like we used to chant at the LA Coiiseum.

  • william banks

Whats wrong with that, you don’t like surprises.

  • Dan78

So Rex Ryan will be Bills new coach with Greg Roman as OC and Dennis Thurman as DC…

  • The Friendliest Alex7

Gruden, Tomlin, Garrett…sometimes guys with not too much experience jump in and dont suck.

it’s not like the opposite is true, that guys with lots of former experience never fail.

    crapshoot

  • Leonel Varela

I think that maybe he has the chance to be Garret replacement in dallas, that is a far better idea than coming here…

  • RaidingTexas

No way he lets Garrett go – unless money becomes an issue.

  • JB

    Sounds more like Rob Ryan

  • william banks

PEP has that LOOK in his eyes.

  • The Friendliest Alex7

Thurman / Jets D last 2 years were 19th and 24th in points allowed.

But fans will look at that staff and say it’s better than anything we’ll have, just because it’s not ours

  • Boar Hunter aka TUCK YOU

Still think he is better than Derrick Thomas?

  • Morilla_00

    Erkel

  • 504 Raider

You have about 12 hrs to persuade Mark otherwise.

  • I think he may have the better career.

  • william banks

Whatever,as long as he wins us Superbowls .

  • Dan78

Do you think Kap will progress now that Roman is gone????

  • 504 Raider

Great. Two guys that don’t know crap about coaches. Could come down to a coin flip.

  • Boar Hunter aka TUCK YOU

No, no and ,HELL NO to that child who has the highest rated draft pick since Elway to work with, lets see how he does with Cuntler or Sanchez, then we can talk

  • Boar Hunter aka TUCK YOU

    Delusional

  • Leonel Varela

do you see garret holding the Lombardi trophy some day?… I don’t… I think Jones is gonna start to believe he can do better at the HC position. although he has been very loyal and supportive of garret all this time… but going back to the start of the post, I think they see in Linehan an asset and they are going to try to keep him in there…

  • 504 Raider

I think Pep just has Luck. Literally and figuratively.

  • 504 Raider

those guys began with good defenses.

  • the comedy genius dr robert

    Gruden. Shanahan.

  • Leonel Varela

when he (Fox) run the score on both games vs us this season I said that the football gods would not forget… one and done, the football gods had spoken…

  • 504 Raider

Unless you have something to provide that will distract us, that’s all we can vision right now.

  • 504 Raider

He might come for some of your girls. I know some guys here already did.

  • 504 Raider

He most likely wears color contacts. Nothing to see here, move along.

  • xXJustReFreshBabyXx

    Your vision is impaired!

  • TrevJo

based on observation and common sense

  • pcraider

    Poor Elway.
He’s gonna need Wilbur more then ever now.

  • pcraider

Peyton in the regular season = Regular Rob Lowe
Peyton in the postseason = Skinny arms Rob Lowe

  • KT

It doesn’t matter what he qualified to do. He is the owner. You don’t have to buy gear, I rarely do. Speak with your wallet as there are no shareholders…

No wool over my eyes, MD is the most inexperienced and least qualified owner in the league, RM hasn’t impressed me. I am not expecting as much as most here. Raiders till I die so I hope Mark learns. I also hope all the training Carr says he has put in growing up and now translates to him taking over the play book like a top QB in the league.

I have faith MD won’t be at the bottom of the league forever. I have hope he figure out how to put a winning team together. I would have never broken up what was going with Hue.

You read too much into my arguement if you think I believe MD and RM have made all things better. They have the cap in order. They have the young names I’ve already mentioned…beyond that they are a work in progress. But the positives I see I will call out. They are the things management need to replicate.

3 QB that were starters gone, they kept Palmer thats on RM. I don’t count Hue as MD coach as he was inherited and RM’s first move was to say your not needed(minor semantics)

Why on earth Amy Trask was run off is beyond me…

But I do believe MD is trying to project a public image that is less abrasive than his fathers “F-you I’ll sue” approach that never got us that spearheaded stadium you speak of. Al has been trying since the 70’s for that stadium so maybe a new approach is best.
