Early breakdown of Raiders (4-3) vs. Steelers (4-4) Sunday at Heinz Field:

Offense

Raiders/Steelers
Total offense 365.3, 9th/349.1, 19th
Rush offense 99.7, 20th/125.8, 9th
Pass offense 265.6, 10th/223.4, 21st
Points per game 25.4, 8th/21.0, 21st (t)
Third down pct. 44.0, 8th/35.0, 22nd

Defense

Total defense 385.0, 26th/366.5, 20th
Rush defense 82.9, 2nd/97.0, 8th
Pass defense 302.1, 31st/269.5, 26th
Points per game 24.7, 18th (t)/18.4, 6th
Third down pct. 42.0, 26th/39.0, 19th

The quarterbacks

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has put together the best back-to-back games of his career _ 47 of 67 for 622 yards, seven touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 134.0 passer rating in a pair of wins. He’s been sacked only once in those two games. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisverger returned Sunday after missing four games with a knee injury. Although he led Pittsburgh on a scoring drive the first time he had the ball, Roethlisberger threw three interceptions in a 16-10 loss to Cincinnati. Roethlisberger has completed 70.9 percent of his passes for 1,174 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions.

The running backs

Raiders running back Latavius Murray rushed for 113 yards and averaged 5.7 yards per carry against one of the top rushing defenses in the NFL. He had runs of 26 and 25 yards. Murray, with 534 yards in six games, is on pace for a 1,335 yard rushing season, which would rank second in franchise history behind Marcus Allen’s 1,759 yards in 1985. Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh;’s leading rusher with 556 yards, was lost for the season with an MCL tear against Cincinnati. With Bell out, the Steelers lead back will be DeAngelo Williams, who has 310 yards rushing and is avearging 4.9 yards per carry.

The receivers

Michael Crabtree caught seven passes for 102 yards and a touchdown against the Jets, giving him 40 receptions for 483 yards on the season. Rookie Amari Cooper, shadowed by Darrelle Revis against the Jets, has 38 catches for 565 yards. It’s been pretty much a one-man show outside for Pittsburgh. Antonio Brown remains one of the NFL’s most dangerous receivers with 52 catches for 718 yards and three touchdowns at the midway point of the season. Former Raider Darrius Heyward-Bey is the next most productive wideout with 17 catches for 209 yards.

The sack artists

Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack had his team-leading fourth sack of the season against the Jets, to go along with three tackles for losses in the running game. Aldon Smith continues to get decent pressure of late without the payoff in terms of sacks. For Pittsburgh, Bud Dupree, a rookie outside linebacker out of Kentucky, leads the Steelers with four sacks, while Stephon Tuitt is the top pass rusher from the Steelers 3-4 front with 3.5 sacks as a 303-pound defensive end.

The last game

Ignited by a 93-yard touchdown run by Terrelle Pryor on the first play from scrimmage, the Raiders went on to beat the Steelers 21-18 in 2013 in Oakland. The Steelers fell to 2-5 with the loss. The last time the Raiders played at Heinz Field, they went in following a bye week with a three-game win streak and were blown out 35-3 as Roethlisberger passed for 275 yards

What it means

Both the Raiders and Steelers have set their sights on a division title, but given both of their divisions are ruled by an unbeaten team (Denver, Cincinnati) it is more likely they are jockeying for a wild card berth _ possibly against each other.

What they’re saying

“The season is halfway over. We’re going to let this burn at us and then turn the page. We’ve got a whole half of football left,” _ Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

“It’s just us doing our job. There’s no super human anything. Nothing like that. Us just listening to what the coaches have taught us, trying to do that to the best of our abiities and we’ve learned how to do that,” _ Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

Good young cb in fa? Not there and if they are, overpriced by far.
Our cbs are good and getting better, people are still just stuck on, they don’t know their names.

  • ncraider

1yr $12mm, not the highest total
contract but the highest average among all CB’s

  • Myopinion

We have smith, Crabtree, king,Penn, and a group of other guys. And we gonna need money for our young stars soon.

  • DutchRaid

They paid him $12M, they got a pretty nice discount from what he was making on Jets and Pats…

  • Myopinion

Not saying we won’t do fa. Just saying I don’t see us making a splash. And I think we stick with the cbs. Maybe draft a guy.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

“Libya Embassy warned State & HRC not to blame the Beghazi attack on a video.”

    Breaking.
As if this hadn’t already been established….jeesh. The actual arrest of the guy that made the video in LA reminded me of the scene in Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” where the government broadcast a video of the mechanical dog attacking the man because he had purported read a book or in some other way gone against the leadership. It’s frightening how similar.

  • RaidingTexas

It’s getting epic around here, especially just south of Dallas and east of Waco. And that’s where it’s supposed to be really bad again later this week.

I’ve long thought man needs to figure out how to capture rain from the areas that are getting it and distribute it to the areas not getting it. Solve that and we’re pretty much set on food forever. It will always be raining somewhere.

I predicted 10-6 at the beginning of the season so i’m not a glass half empty guy when it comes to the Raiders, but realize we are not even half way thru the season yet. I think any talk of who we might play in the playoffs is way premature. We could go 13-3 or we could have more games like Chicago. I will say the team that just won these past two games looks better than the one that lost to Chicago. It is possible for a team to get better and better and this team may be a prime example.

Carrie, Hayden, and Amerson are serviceable CBs. I would not say they are shut down CBs but there are very few of those guys available. I would say that they should draft the highest rated player at one of the need spots (S, CB, LB, T, and G). I havent looked at the FA list for next year but if there is a guy who can compete for a starting job then bring them in, I just dont see Patrick Peterson or Richard Sherman suddenly becoming available next year.

  • RaidingTexas

I want that so bad it makes my d*** hard.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

CA politicians, cowed by people who call themselves “environmentalists” but know shyyyt, won’t build reservoirs.

I have a friend who is very green and who spent a fortune to capture water and reuse years and years ago. Problem is, not much water has fallen.

He also bought a 100k(the cheap one) Tesla and took me for a spin last year. He’s a retired teacher who worked a second job selling securities, mostly to teachers. The Tesla? Hmmm. I would never have spent that money on it, but to him it’s a toy.

  • ncraider

You in direct line with any of the really bad stuff RT?

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

But, when El Nino comes, they say you guys in WA will be dryer than usual, that it will go south of you.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    Thanks.

  • Ronin559

New salary cap window start in 2017 so all the money available this year and next year need to be spent to stay above the minimum cap. It is projected that we will have around $65m to spend next season.

  • disqus_yeZNegncsV

    It’s split evenly.

    Agree..

    New post.

  • The Machine

Poor Gpuppy, going down grasping like straws buffoon style.

You know, when people talk of loading dock players, they weren’t looking up and down the roster at every swinging weenie that was here in the past. They were kind of pointing to guys like these:

Javon Walker 6 years, $55 million, $11 million signing bonus, $16 million guaranteed

Gibril Wilson 6 years, $39 million, third highest paid safety in the entire NFL

Tommy Kelly 7 year5, $50.125 million, $17.5 million in guarantees. Highest paid defensive lineman in history at the time

Richard Seymour 2 years, 30 million, highest paid defensive player in the NFL.

Stanford Routt 3 years, $31.5 million, $20 million guaranteed. The NFL’s third-highest paid cornerback

    Kameron Wibley

Michael huff 4-years, $32 million, $12 million guaranteed

Rolando McClain 7 million in dead money to cut, and a douche from day one. total bum of a first round pick.

Darrius Heyward Bey 5 million and change to cut, total bum of a first round pick.

This is why were went into tear down mode. So you can just go to hell, with your lunacy. Too bad, the Raiders are being run by adults now, with a solid philosophy, and sound plan moving forward. There is no room for your garbage any longer. Or you can continue making a complete buffoon of yourself.

  • ncraider

Ok, but it was still a splashy signing

  • Ronin559

They are starting to believe and they are learning what it takes to win. A stop on 4th down in Chicago and that game is over. Pretty soon they will be closing out the game better and these big leads will hold through out the game

  • Dan78

Raiders looking for land in LA for headquarters…..

  • JLofty

There aren’t a lot of great CB prospects after the top few. We ain’t gunna be drafting 5th NO MORE!!!! Woo hoo!!
I like our CBs they are improving. I’m kind of with the old man Al on this. Can’t have to many or too talented of CBs….

  • JLofty

    This….^^^^

  • RaidingTexas

Parts of Dallas have been hit hard lately. I’m on high enough ground that, if my home were flooded, downtown Dallas would have to be under 40-50 feet of water. Basically the end of Texas.

  • JLofty

Yes but we can’t sign Carr and Mack yet. I doubt Murray gets a max deal.
CBA rules say we need to spend some mooolah NEXT off season. Hopefully we do so wisely so we aren’t strapped in 17 and 18….

  • Gdog

Uhh, St Reggie thought enough of some of the players on this list to restructure them. (OH WAIT.. HE HAD NO CHOICE! Even though he signed Brisiel and deferred 5 mill to the deconstruction year!)

And some of the others on that list were before the rookie contracts got chopped. Not Al’s fault there (except in Machine’s hatred fueled brain!)

Routt, and Walker were flat out blunders (See Machine, you can admit that people you think are awesome made blunders!)

  • ncraider

    Good to hear

  • Back-N-Black

Listened to those turds on Monday Night Countdown paying lip service to the Raiders. Even going so far as to say the league is better when the raiders are good. Well, they can keep their bs and shove their compliments up their azz. I won’t forget all the trash they’ve talked and the disrespect. I hope the players don’t buy in either.

  • JLofty

    So….you’re saying there’s a chance?!?

    Jk brother!

  • JLofty

Gruden NEVER dissed us. Even we well deserved it….

  • Gdog

    Wingnuts and Benghazi!

  • Back-N-Black

not Gruden… Berman, Johnson, and the others

  • Gdog

As I said this morning… its easier to ignore the negative stuff the talking heads spew if you ignore the positive as well.

    Try it!

  • RaidingTexas

Yeah, a Tesla is for people who can afford toys. No thanks. I’ll stick with my pedestrian gas-sipping Toyota and Subaru. A car is a utility to me, not a status symbol.

  • Ronin559

Revis had a 2 year deal with the Pats that with no guarantees on the 2nd year. He would have been paid$12 million (2014) and $20 million (2015). Before that he had a contract that paid him $16m a year with Tampa. See how that worked, he was still set to average $16m even though he and the Patriots know it would essentially be a 1 year deal unless he played out of his mind again and had a Def MVP type season he had with the Jets the first time around.

  • The Machine

The mustard has officially come off the hot dog for you. You never understood, and you continue to stay willfully ignorant. You know I love it. The series of events that lead us here has you looking like a big ole buffoon. I warned you in the off season that you were going to end up looking stupid, and it is now happening. There were always choices, and the Raiders made the right choices. Get out from under the mess from the previous regime, dump the ridiculous salary cap philosophy and exorbitant contracts, and build the team like adults are in charge. It is happening, and there is nothing your idiotic revisions of our history will ever do to change the perception of what a complete idiot you are. You were so obviously wrong it is downright funny.

  • The Machine

Bums the whole lot of em, on future destroying contracts. You are too much of wussy to face the fact that they all needed to go, and you needed to eat the medicine, Al left us a literal mess. You are such a melodramatic weirdo in regards to Al, you could never just simply handle the truth. Here is where you whine about hating Al for calling the situation simply what it was. Such a little convoluted wussy, whining bout the same things every day for four years.
