In news that isn’t really news, wide receiver Rod Streater and running back Roy Helu Jr. are among the inactives for Thursday’s home finale against the San Diego Chargers.
Streater has been active for just two games this season and played only one (in the season opener) and will Seth Roberts (abdomen) healthy and able to play, Streater remains the odd man out.
While the issue has been address (here AND here), it’s still a question that comes up from time to time. The best way to describe it is that Streater is the Raiders’ fifth option at receiver with the emergence of Roberts and the fact that Andre Holmes possesses added special teams value (in addition to giving the Raiders a big 6-foot-4 target).
Helu has certainly served as a disappointment after being signed as a free agent, having played in just eight games and getting only 21 touches for 46 yards and one touchdown. Fullback Jamize Olawale’s ability to carry the ball helps lessen the need for Helu.
Cornerback Neiko Thorpe, the only player whose status for this game was in question, will sit out his second straight with a neck injury. Safety Nate Allen is out again, as expected, with his knee injury.
S Nate Allen, RB Roy Helu Jr., CB Neiko Thorpe, LB John Lotulelei, OL Matt McCants, WR Rod Streater, TE Gabe Holmes.
The rest of the Raiders inactives are: LB John Lotulelei, OL Matt McCants and TE Gabe Holmes.
For San Diego, the inactives are: WR Stevie Johnson, CB Steve Williams, LB Kyle Emanuel, OL Jeff Linkenbach, LT King Dunlap, WR Vincent Brown, NT Sean Lissemore.
