NAPA _ Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith has checked into a treatment center, the Web site TMZ reported Friday.
Smith, currently under suspension under the NFL program for substances of abuse, was to miss a minimum of nine games and would have been eligible in September to apply for reinstatement 60 days before the suspension ended.
A Raiders official at the club’s first training camp practice declined comment.
The story did not say why Smith was in treatment. In 2013, Smith had went into rehab following two DUI arrests.
A video surfaced last week of a man who was not shown firing up what appeared to be a joint with a voice that sounds like Smith talking about a “fire up session.”
Smith responded on Twitter with a post that said, “Good try, not me.”
Although the NFL has recently reinstated suspended players Josh Gordon and Dion Jordan, Smith may have put his 2016 season in jeopardy as well as his career if he has run foul of the provisions of his suspension.
