NAPA — So much of the Raiders’ season is dependent upon the continued development of quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Amari Cooper.

That made it music to Raiders fans’ ears to learn that the duo were rooming together during training camp this season.

“We’re having a good time,” Carr said Friday. “It’s good to come back and just talk ball with him. He tells me his goals, I share my stuff with him. I know how he thinks. I know how he likes to go about his business. I know what he likes to do off the field. Him and I should have the best relationship ever.”

Cooper had similar thoughts on what the extra time together will allow.

“Just getting to know each other more, that’s always a good thing,” he said Saturday. “We get to talk more, so I guess that’s basically the biggest thing. We talk about each other as a person, and we talk about the plays that we run.”

Raiders offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave loves the idea of his two most important weapons spending so much time together.

“I think all that interaction helps their rapport,” Musgrave said. “They talk football, they talk life and it’s a good thing.”

Musgrave is a former backup quarterback for the 49ers and harkened to an example from those days.

“Back in the day Steve Young and Brent Jones were roommates for years the night before the game,” Musgrave said. “It’s just good, as those two young players grow together, to be more productive.”

Ben Heeney will wear the green dot for the Raiders defense

Second-year linebacker Ben Heeney confirmed the news that he’ll be wearing the green dot communication helmet for the defense this season. That all but assures the Raiders’ plans to have him as their every down MIKE linebacker.

“That’s the goal, has been the goal, that I’ve been wanting to do,” Heeney said. “Happy to be there, just going to do whatever I can to keep the spot.”

Highlights from practice No. 2

The pads haven’t come on yet, so I don’t yet put a whole lot of stock into what we see at practice. Come tomorrow, when pads go on, it’s a little different story.

Running back Jalen Richard has shown a nice burst when he gets the ball. Same for DeAndre Washington.

Cornerback DJ Hayden had one of the highlight plays with a pick-six interception of Matt McGloin during team drills.

Heeney also had a strong day that included snuffing out a screen pass and stripping a pass caught by Cooper and taking it back for a touchdown.

For those that don’t already know, we have a Bay Area News Group/Oakland Raiders Facebook page. Between Jerry McDonald and I, we’re planning to do Facebook Live chats each day at around 3 p.m. Please give that page a like and come check out our videos and comment during the live portions of them. The videos will be in the 5-10 minute range, maybe longer if we get some comments and questions.

  • BroJackson34

Not when it’s that big of a gaffe! Too much of a classic. lol

And you still have a problem with reading comprehension but don’t worry you have hope. There are plenty of evening adult schools that teach reading. What I SAID, was extending him four years while posting a 16-48 record is a bit of a head scratcher. I certainly would not have done it, but I would have extended him a year, with an option if this year pans out as well as we all hope it does.

  • R8der4evr

I can’t doubt that, he did play decent with a horrible cast and coaches

  • RAY NJ

    Back to back birdies…nice.

    New post.

  • eastoaklandraider

It took you 12 whole minutes to write a paragraph I think you’re the one that needs more schooling

  • Rik/Jarhead

    Go Raiders eh?

  • PodunkRaider (aka RRS)

i meant HS and corrected it like 3 minutes later. The fact that you kept it makes me wonder what other stuff you got stored on there. You probably need to get a life if you live and die by every comment made here

  • seymour bush

Those three guys play a different position than Dan Williams.

  • FriskiesR8R

    True dat

Maybe because I went out to the laundry, had a bite to eat, burned a Sprinsteen show to disc and played a song on guitar, then answered your bluster. But thanks for being so interested in my comings and goings.

You may want to learn to read a little. The post earlier ,by me and Dakota, cleared up all your Reggie does everything nonsense up. Posted articles may find a way through your dream state.

  • BroJackson34

You’re worse than a woman! Exaggerating a minor mistake you made that I’m playing against you to get a laugh. I’m sorry you’re so sensitive but you can block me if you’d like, that way I won’t upset you moving forward. lol

  • PodunkRaider (aka RRS)

    more “lol”? shut up

  • RAY NJ

I think Mark would laugh at that.

  • xraided

ah yes, the posted articles like your “Mark wanted Carr at 5” …meaning he should get all the credit…that’s the real nonsense here. a “rumor” that Mark was demanding Derek to be taken at 5… but was grabbed in the 2nd round instead? lmao

  • xraided

of course he would, just like everyone else here laughs at him

  • 2romes

Like your lmao at a Pro-bowl QB the same as you are with Reggie’s first pick Hayden. All of 2012 picks and I mean all of the 2012 draft class had no value to this team. That’s when Mark knew could he could contribute to the team much more then the combo of Reggie and Dennis Allen.

  • 2romes

It is not a prerequisite that avid fans be blind to articles that are written. If you feel Reggie’s the best GM out there to date fantasy is your right.

  • 2romes

No, Mark did not laugh. Mark just took over more control of the team’s decisions. It’s real stuff.
