Tice: Raiders interior line could be the best he’s seen

The Raiders offensive line interior of Kelechi Osemele, Rodney Hudson and Gabe Jackson has potential to be dominant.

The Raiders offensive line interior of Kelechi Osemele, Rodney Hudson and Gabe Jackson has potential to be dominant.

The Raiders have earned plenty of praise for their offensive line, with some pundits calling it potentially one of the best in the league.

The strength of that group is on the interior. Left guard Kelechi Osemele, center Rodney Hudson and right guard Gabe Jackson form a group that’s smart, big and incredibly powerful.

Raiders offensive line coach Mike Tice, who has been coaching in the NFL for 20 years to follow up a 14-year player career, isn’t sure he’s seen a better group.

“I’ve been very blessed to coach a lot of good football players, a lot of good lineman in Minnesota, some good guys in Jacksonville,” Tice said. “Those three guys as a trio there could be as good as any three guys I’ve been blessed to coach. I’m really excited about working with those guys.”

* Tice and head coach Jack Del Rio both praised the way Jackson has handled his move from left guard to right guard following Osemele’s acquisition.

“First of all, he didn’t pout, so that was awesome. He accepted it,” Tice said. “Second of all, honestly he looks like a natural over there on the right side and he’s having a tremendous camp.”

* Tice also spoke very highly of Jon Feliciano, last year’s fourth-round pick, who is pegged to backup at the three interior line spots.

Feliciano earned three starts toward the end of last season, but Tice didn’t particularly care for how he played during that stretch, noting that “he was on the ground too much.” But he trimmed down over the offseason, got married and Tice sees a more mature player.

“Jon has taken a big step for us,” Tice said. “He took all the left guard snaps for us in the first day in padded practice. Besides the fact that Kelechi’s a beast, it wasn’t evident that we were really missing anything. And now he’s starting to understand coverage and being able to make the calls in our protections. Very comfortable with him being that sixth guy. Very comfortable.”

* The Raiders were fairly light on team work Tuesday as they returned from their first off day of camp.

Among the highlights were a wheel route touchdown by Taiwan Jones from Matt McGloin off a busted coverage. Dewey McDonald also had an interception against McGloin during 7-on-7 work.

Mychal Rivera made a nice finger tip catch off a Derek Carr pass during 11-on-11 work and the Raiders first-team offense also went on a nice drive near the end of practice that concluded with a Carr touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree.

* Undrafted defensive end Greg Townsend Jr. (undisclosed injury) was activated from the physically unable to perform list and suited up for his first training camp practice.

  • 408RAIDER

who in the hell is Dewey McDonald?

  • Dakota

I hope it is just precautionary.

  • RaidingTexas

Walford on 95.7 talking about the accident.

  • idahoraiderfan33

    That would be my guess

  • dakota?

  • Dakota

Silly and petty? I’ll bet NFL GMs and owners are on my side.

  • easyant13

Your really hung up on that, most teams fifth doesn’t make the team, and a fourth on a guy who at one time was first rouND projectef, sometimes the best business move is cutting bait at the right time

  • RaidingTexas

Hesitated when asked if he is good to go. “Uh … I’ll be ready by game 1.”

  • 24

    He better be resting

  • Ronin559

She has some good dark features, kinda like the Kardashians. She has a pretty face and she is also funny and talks sports really well which makes her even sexier.

  • xraided

no doubt. he should get rest through preseason as well. learn that defense…become a book worm…save those knees!

  • easyant13

Yea. Way better looking then mind kaling, but gives me the same vibe, overated

  • Oak R8rs33.01

Screenshotted. That’ll be the next thing you’re wrong about.

  • Born With a Patch

I’d take a second or third for McGloin

Look at you giving credit to the girls with personality..you must love Amy Schumer

  • RaidingTexas

I’m not hung up on it. But it is a fact that we used two picks on him.

  • idahoraiderfan33

Dude had major surgery, so they probably just taking it easy with him..

  • PodunkRaider (aka RRS)

Which one? The one where Joseph met Murray in the backfield and knocked his helmet off??

  • He’s taken nearly every single snap in camp so far, maybe they’re just letting him rest.

  • dplunk

    : )

  • Ronin559

I hope Neiron gets some time too, I want to see what he has to offer at the LB spot.

  • DanfromVegas

What about Plunkett? First Mexican American QB, first minority, to win the Superbowl

  • easyant13

Doubtful, because they’ve all drafted a player that took more time then others to develop, and when they do play well I doubt they’re saying damn well I might of been able to wsit, another feather in the cap,

  • PodunkRaider (aka RRS)

undrafted kid that was on our practice squad last year. Apparently, he’s better than Nate Allen…

  • 24

She doesn’t look bad, she just looks like shes aging way too fast.

Ranking all 32 NFL defensive front-sevens

    5. Oakland Raiders

Projected starters: DE Mario Edwards Jr, NT Dan Williams, DE Denico Autry; OLB Khalil Mack, OLB Bruce Irvin; ILB Malcolm Smith, ILB Ben Heeney

Other names to know: NT Justin Ellis, DE Jihad Ward; OLB Aldon Smith, OLB Damontre Moore, OLB Shilique Calhoun

Key stat: Khalil Mack accounted for 28% of pressures by the Raiders front seven in 2015.

In terms of seamless quality and versatility, there may not be a
better defensive front in football right now than the Raiders. Khalil
Mack provides Oakland with an undeniable star, but the likes of Dan
Williams, Mario Edwards Jr., and Bruce Irvin give this front all-around
quality and moveable pieces that can produce from a variety of
alignments. The play of the Raiders’ off-ball linebackers could be what
holds this front—and the defense as a whole—back in 2016.

Well the hype is officially there…thats cool.

  • dplunk

    lol. really? smh

  • 24

The only thing that I’ve noticed is that I haven’t heard any highlight with his name in camp so far.

  • PodunkRaider (aka RRS)

I imagine a rookie in training camp gets about as much rest as a private in the Army

Clive Walford went back inside with Karl Joseph before practice started in earnest.

  • easyant13

O kiw and we had extra 5th rounders, but if you think they won’t put him on thr ps to add a guy who will actually play football this year it seems misguided

Don’t see Taiwan Jones here either. Lots of news absences for #Raiders

He was ALL-PRO and league MVP for crying out loud.

You sure are quick to comment over anything I say about the backup QBs lately. I still don’t even know WTF you meant by saying this one yesterday:

    easyant13 a day ago
You had a hard time wrapping gyour head around it yesterday, quick turn around?

Nothing in my comment that you replied to was a change of opinion. I don’t think Reggie can force McGloin to take a paycut and that’s that.

  • I’m thinking maybe they wanna be careful with that injury? Don’t overwork the leg to a point of hurting it. Dunno. Maybe it’s a family thing. Just guesses on a slow day.

  • DutchRaid

But they cut him on this contract…he is now playing under this: Nate Allen signed a 1 year, $3,000,000 contract with the Oakland Raiders, including $1,850,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $3,000,000. In 2016, Allen will earn a base salary of $2,400,000, a roster bonus of $500,000 and a workout bonus of $100,000. Allen has a cap hit of $3,000,000 while his dead money value is $1,850,000.

Howard is right now actually. Doing a lot of mixing around on the line today. McCants even getting guard reps.
