Raiders’ defensive end Denico Autry was activated from the physically unable to perform list and practiced during Friday’s session.
Autry, who has his right hand/arm heavily taped, missed the offseason program and the first six days of training camp. He immediately jumped in and started receiving first-team reps, alternating with second-round pick Jihad Ward.
He said he injured his wrist during offseason training, but was happy to finally be back.
“It was tough,” Autry said. “I had a little set back, but I’ve got to keep striving every day to get where I was at and get better.
He started eight games and played in 14 last season, finishing with three sacks and developing into a quality versatile piece on the defensive line.
• Safety Karl Joseph, the Raiders’ first-round pick, returned to practice after sitting out Thursday’s. Tight end Clive Walford was also back at practice. Running back Taiwan Jones was out there at the start of practice, but later retreated to the locker room and didn’t participate.
• The Raiders practiced without pads Friday after enduring their most physical session of camp the day before. Coach Jack Del Rio conceded that was part of the plan in holding some guys out on Thursday.
“We work hard to make sure that we’re working smart, doing the right things with our guys so that they can be at their best,” Del Rio said. “Just continue to strengthen and just kind of preventative and make sure we don’t have issues.”
