Raiders’ defensive end Denico Autry was activated from the physically unable to perform list and practiced during Friday’s session.

Autry, who has his right hand/arm heavily taped, missed the offseason program and the first six days of training camp. He immediately jumped in and started receiving first-team reps, alternating with second-round pick Jihad Ward.

He said he injured his wrist during offseason training, but was happy to finally be back.

“It was tough,” Autry said. “I had a little set back, but I’ve got to keep striving every day to get where I was at and get better.

He started eight games and played in 14 last season, finishing with three sacks and developing into a quality versatile piece on the defensive line.

• Safety Karl Joseph, the Raiders’ first-round pick, returned to practice after sitting out Thursday’s. Tight end Clive Walford was also back at practice. Running back Taiwan Jones was out there at the start of practice, but later retreated to the locker room and didn’t participate.

• The Raiders practiced without pads Friday after enduring their most physical session of camp the day before. Coach Jack Del Rio conceded that was part of the plan in holding some guys out on Thursday.

“We work hard to make sure that we’re working smart, doing the right things with our guys so that they can be at their best,” Del Rio said. “Just continue to strengthen and just kind of preventative and make sure we don’t have issues.”

    Surely you jest!

  • Heck Legler

Seriously, there was a marked improvement a couple of months ago and now… a major regression to trollville. How can we bring the kinder, gentler SNBG back?

  • DutchRaid

weakest link…LBs? (non-pass rushers that is)

  • RAY NJ

Don’t think I want to know.

  • Yes. Once they gel, I think it’s Gonna be one of best DLs the raiders have ever seen imo.

  • RAY NJ

    Drugs.

  • Maybe. I think it’ll be solid there too. Kinda depends where Heeney is at I think. If he’s ready, the team is.

  • inonewordraider

We were top 5 d with sapp and kelly one yr i believe, but we had aaron brooks as qb

  • jesusraiderjim

It does help being stoned. Doesn’t change the fact he’s a trolling douche bag though.

  • Bummer about Aldon tho. Wish that kid could get his head straight.

  • Once they gel, this has makings of an epic D! (That’s what she said)

  • DutchRaid

Surprised the beat writers were really talking up his ability to blitz…thought M. Smith would be the better fit in that department…Heeney must have really grown in the off-season.

  • RAY NJ

But..but…he’s a fellow blogger. How can you say that?

  • Gdog

I think hands down. We are all being fan-boy hoping Heeney isn’t another Burris, and we saw Malcolm disappear too much last year.

Can Irvin fill the gaps alone?

  • Beefed up.

  • Fingers are definitely crossed on Heeney, but if he’s indeed ready, I think the rotation is gonna play well. Especially sandwiched between a stellar DL and secondary.

  • Heck Legler

I cared about getting something in return, but understood that we were in a deep rebuild and needed to develop a young QB. plus, I understood that CP understandably didn’t want to stick around for the rebuild. That said, it really does seem that Reg could have gotten a couple good picks for him.

  • Gdog

You also have to be concerned with depth. An injury to any LB and we have a herd of NOTHING behind them.

    Calhoun, Bates, Toomer? WHO?

    Lol bye Moore

#Raiders claim DB Tramain Jacobs (NYG) and LB Lenny Jones (49ers) off waivers, waive DE Damontre Moore and CB SaQwan Edwards

  • 24

He had too much time on his hands to make a mistake.

  • 24

I see Ward playing in the place of Autry while hes out. Autry has earned his starting spot.

  • Gdog

We all know people, or have friends that keep making mistake after mistake in life. I think its in their genes. It has to be to NEVER worry about consequences. Its got to be just how your brain is wired. I ALWAYS worry about the consequences of things.. and work hard to correct mistakes in judgement. Never been in trouble, for the most part.

  • 24

Irvin isn’t responsible for filling the gaps. He’ll be standing on the line opposite Mack going after the QB.

  • JLofty

Yup good to go, Was on the radio this morning I think…

  • 24

I think the problem is that some people want their cake and to eat it to. You want to have the freedom to do whatever you want while also living the lifestyle you want but life has it’s rules and you have to maintain a level of responsibility and with that you must choose a lifestyle. Some don’t know how to find that balance because they have a little too much rebel in them and always need to tow the line.

  • r8dercain

    Wasup fellas

They’re a different kind of big body too. They are thick, muscular and strong versus someone like Dan Williams who’s fat big.

  • CrawDaddyKenny

  • inonewordraider

Cookie throwing better, jospeph autry and walford back, moore is adios

  • 24

Yup…but he plays standing on the line next to the DE (Mario Edwards Jr) versus being 5 yards back like Heeney and Malcolm Smith

  • CrawDaddyKenny

Not to much. We need P-Man to come and lighten things up here.

  • 24

Hes a statement guy. They already knew he was a problem so the coaching staff brought him in and showed the team they don’t play around if you don’t follow the rules.

  • 24

    Nice

  • inonewordraider

I think he’s saying he is those people. Could it be true? I don’t know how you prove it one way or the other.
