Raiders boot Osemele and Edwards from practice for fighting

The Raiders are teetering on the edge of overagression.
For the second time in three days, the Raiders saw a training camp practice marred by fighting. This time, it forced Raiders coach Jack Del Rio to kick two players out of practice.

Starting left guard Kelechi Osemele and right defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. threw punches twice in about a five-minute span that led Del Rio to declare he had seen enough. Both players left the field and a team spokesman confirmed they were kicked out of practice. Del Rio was not scheduled to speak to the media and was not available to comment.

Of immediate concern is the impact on the fighting to Edwards, who had an ice pack on his right hand when he hit the weight room following his ejection from practice.

This comes two days after quarterback Derek Carr condemned in-practice fighting in part for that exact reason. Del Rio was also pretty clear during the team’s organized team activities how he feels about fighting .

“I’ve always felt that as teammates you should respect each other,” Del Rio said in May. “We can’t afford to lose somebody. We can’t afford to train ourselves to respond in a way that’s not appropriate for a game.”

Beyond booting the players from the field, Del Rio gathered the team in a circle after practice to chat.
Donald Penn, who two days ago was among those involved in a dust-up between a good chunk of the offensive and defensive players, seemed to play peacemaker Saturday.

Penn walked Osemele off the field after the second fight and then returned to take Edwards over to the next field over for a chat.

    No Raiders gear in Ken Stabler’s Hall of Fame display

    Even though Packers fans may not like it, it’s easy to explain the presence of a Vikings jersey in Brett Favre’s Hall of Fame display at Canton. It’s much harder to explain the absence of Raiders gear in Ken Stabler’s display.

    Darren Rovell of ESPN posted earlier today an image of the Raider-free Stabler display. There’s a Saints helmet, an AFC Pro Bowl helmet, an AFC Pro Bowl jersey. It appears the locker has a game ball from a Raiders-Cardinals contest tucked into the upper corner, and the cleats, shoulder pads, and other pads may have come from a Raiders uniform, the display doesn’t have a Raiders jersey, helmet, pants, and anything else that would make it clear that Stabler played for the Silver and Black.

    There’s also no gear from his time with the Oilers, which is odd as well. Then again, if the display had any Houston memorabilia that Stabler had worn, the absence of Raiders gear would have been even more glaring.

    It’s more bizarre than disrespectful. And even if there’s an explanation for it, there’s no excuse for the omission.

    I guess Brees has been struggling in camp more so than previous years. Maybe age is catching up?

    ++++++++

    Today wasn’t an aberration. Garland Gillen of FOX 8 observed on Twitter that he has covered every camp since Brees joined the Saints, and that he has thrown his most interceptions during training camp “by far” in 2016.
