Raiders coach Jack Del Rio divulged some injury information on Monday, announcing that defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. (hip) will be “out for a while” and tight end Gabe Holmes (ankle) is likely headed for season-ending injured reserve.

“Mario is going to be a out a few weeks, that’s unfortunate,” Del Rio said. “He will return and is not going to require surgery.”

ProFootballTalk reported Sunday that Edwards has a hip strain and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Holmes, meanwhile, has a “pretty significant high ankle sprain” that also includes a fracture of one of the bones in his ankle.

“I would anticipate he’ll end up going on IR,” Del Rio said.

A trip to injured reserve would end the season for Holmes, who was pushing to make the team as the No. 3 tight end.

Edwards will presumably miss at least a couple of games, with Denico Autry likely filling his void. Second-round pick Jihad Ward had already been starting on the left side of the defensive line.

The Raiders also saw starting middle linebacker Ben Heeney leave practice Monday with some sort of left leg injury. Heeney got tangled up with tight end Mychal Rivera while defending him on a deep pass play and hobbled off the field and eventually to the locker room.

Heeney, whose fiancee gave birth to a daughter on Sunday, left the facility for a while after practice, possibly to have some tests run, and later returned about an hour after practice ended. He was walking on his own power but with a limp and later tweeted, “I’m good!”

Imagine the Gruden years being the best years of your Raider fan experience and then understand why we’re so mad.

  • who’s the depth behind Autry now?

  • Raider 8

wtf are u talking about? when did he ever show a lack of courage? name one instance. if anything he’s too much of the exact opposite. he’s never shied away from a throw and taken some very brutal hits. see the greg hardy pop he took FOR US and did he miss ANY GAMES as a result? all he did was pop back up. played every game but one for us after enduring MANY hits due to a weak line. that’s a bs take and comes from some weird hate for a guy who did nothing but bust his butt for us.

  • Raider 8

that’s bs. so he had a bad playoff game. like he’s the first one? i suppose it’s his fault for a guy rolling in his ankle vs pittsburgh. right it’s “palmers fault”. you know who has higher interception rate than palmer? the two hall of fame qb’s inducted a couple weeks ago in canton.
i guess he was supposed to lead us to the super bowl with the same roster everyone says needed to be entirely overhauled. this palmer hate is just weird..

How do nurses get experience when they won’t hire them without experience.

  • RaidingTexas

Ah, the gratuitous diatribe from a Palmer jocksniffer when you bring up his tendency to blow it late in games or his 1-3 playoff record. Let me guess, a USC fan? Anyway, AZ fanboy blog >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Lol… Was waiting for someone to bitch about me bitching….

  • Gdog

This is just flucking retarded. He had TOO much confidence in his arm, which has always been his downfall.

  • RaidingTexas

Lol! Nothing brings out the furor like a little Palmer.
