ALAMEDA — Jalen Richard’s return to the Raiders practice field was a welcome site for offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave.

“It really reminded us of what we’ve missed the last two weeks of practice with him not being there,” Musgrave said.

This isn’t a projected starter for the Raiders that he’s talking about. Rather it’s an undrafted rookie running back. That tells you what type of impression the Southern Miss product has made despite missing the first two preseason games with a minor knee injury.

“For a while he was doing something spectacular each and every day in practice,” Mustrave said of Richard. “It’s good to have him back out there.”

Tuesday was Richard’s first practice in two weeks since injuring his knee. He said he’s not sure yet if he’ll play Saturday against the Tennessee Titans but he’s feeling good.

“I definitely feel good enough to be out there as far as the intensity standpoint,” Richard said. “It’s a day-by-day thing. I don’t know if I’m playing Saturday or not, but I’ll give it another day and see how I feel.”

Coaches and fans who have heard the reports have been itching to see him play. If it doesn’t happen Saturday, he should see plenty of time in the preseason finale Sept. 1.

Richard said a large part of why he missed the past two weeks was so he could put his best foot forward when he does finally see game action and gets a chance to show what he can do.

He’s had to take the tough path in his attempt to make this roster. He came in on a rookie tryout and earned a free agent contract. Without even playing in a game, Richard’s received enough positive reviews to make his chances at the 53-man roster realistic.

“You’re really just pushing every day to make plays, just to be seen,” Richard said of his mindset as an undrafted player. “That’s the whole thing — to be seen, be seen. Let them know that every day, at the end of the day, that you can play at this level. It feels good to be back out there.”

Barry is the posterboy for GOAT RBs on bad to middling teams.

  • JLofty

    those days are long gone.
last RB axiom. DON’T draft Alabama RBS. Dudes get used up and ridden in college like the village bicycle….

  • doubtful there is another AP out there we’ll get, and I believe that is pretty much why he had success in Minny…

  • Mark was true to his word to the Inglewood mayor he said.
    Stand up guy.

  • BroJackson34

I don’t even think we need A.P, we just need Murray to be better and one of the other young dudes to be productive.

  • marks hair

We are running a single back and shotgun based offense. We are obviously not trying to be powwr run-oriented

  • DJ Johnny

While this stuff is going on with Lott etc. they are close to approving financing for Vegas. If they do this emergency legislative session and approve it Mark will file for relo to Vegas and Raiders could be “moving” by 2017 season. Mark promised if financing gets done in Vegas he’s moving there.

Oakland (Lott’s group..whomever) will have to have to have something very solid and real to make Mark abandon Vegas and break his word to the Vegas people.

This financing thing may not come through down there though. There is some political back and forth going on…and some wrangling so it’s not a done deal…but everything looks like the financing will get done.

  • Or finally realize that Murray isn’t quite as good as people gave him credit for last year and move on to younger, hungrier guys?

  • BroJackson34

Not power run but the ability for the run to be a threat. Right now it’s not.

  • Murray is a stiff…

  • jesusraiderjim

    Bernie>Murray

  • RaiderCODE

They arent doing this for ‘nothing’ they just hired the same people building a bay front stadium for the Dubs? Looks to me like its obviously beyond a ‘discussion’ – if they decide to build there the Coli is now open for whatever – remodel or rebuild – for the Raiders. thats a gamechanger…

  • BroJackson34

Sure but our improved line should help him and the others get more yards. I’m trying to be hopeful here because I’m not really a fan of Musgrave.

  • Goes in the draft, Chargers get nothing and Bosa will be picked in the top 35 or so of next years draft.

  • jesusraiderjim

    Hey

  • easyant13

    Connors brother?

  • lefty12

They aren’t close. It has to be voted on by the voters of Nevada.I love how not one person on here has sat in on a single meeting yet you act like you know the outcome.

  • ComptonRaider

    run up the middle
    run up the middle
    pass
    punt
    bueller

  • inonewordraider

Not a big murray fan but he was #2 rusher in afc and has a better oline now

  • DutchRaid

As a coach, not as a person!

  • BroJackson34

    That’s the spirit! LOL

  • Oh I’m not at all a fan of Musgrave but watching Murray last year was frustrating, rarely do you see a guy of that size not use it to his advantage.

  • RaiderCODE

” Mark promised if financing gets done in Vegas he’s moving there.”

You keep thinking that Mark is calling the shots. He’s not. Even if the financing get approved *they’re at least 5 major steps away from that its less likely to happen everyday* – the NFL owners will decide if the Raiders move, *not* Mark. If theres a viable opportunity in Oakland (doesnt have to be *better* than Vegas), they’re not going to grant relocation. The market is just too valuable.

  • Huge deal for the A’s.
Doesn’t mean a whole lot to the Raiders. Not like they are going to announce all this is done for the A’s by the time the Nevada goes to legislature and if passed the NFL votes on relocation in 5 months.

  • BroJackson34

True, we just need the others to step up and productive as well.

  • No vote for the voters in Nevada. You are completely wrong on that.
Only needs 2/3 approval by Nevada legislature.

  • JLofty

No I meant Lott and Wolff talking.
I see Fisher is taking a longer look at Howard Term but this time without Lew. Smart.
Lew only wants a stadium on Coli land so he can get a sweatheart redev zone and make a killing on the backs of Oakland taxpayers. Cause that’s redev zones and RE developers do. But Fisher isin’t a real estate guy like Lew. So you’re right this may be a big deal for Raiders stadium hopes at the Coli…

  • DJ Johnny

On our first series vs Green Bay we moved down the field to the 30 yd line and on 3rd and 8 I think…It was a pass play to Roberts crossing over toward the sideline and it was just kind of thrown away. I know…it happens…. but last yr it seemed there were many 3rd down situations where you scratch your head at what they are doing.

  • Lew owns 8% of the team, Fisher somewhere in the 60% range.

  • lefty12

OK,I was just going on what my sister who lives in Vegas told me.

  • She apparently hasn’t sat in any meetings either.

  • BroJackson34

1,000 yards is a 1,000 yds but he needs someone to be productive behind him. We can’t rely on him to get 1,200 or 1,300, especially with his upright running style.

  • lefty12

She is quite involved in local/state politics.

  • JLofty

So I guess silver spoon Fisher is going to poke around without his real estate shark partner. Lew just wants the dev rights to the Coli site. And a fat tax exempt redev district to hide behind….

  • It won’t be 500M, and you don’t have to pay it up front.
Why do you keep fighting this?

  • PodunkRaider (aka RRS)

Black Hole Son, JLofty, marks hair, Compton, DJ Johnny… any of you dudes interested in joining the blog fantasy football league?

  • lefty12

    And neither have you.

  • JLofty

You *DO NOT* break your word to the VEGAS “people” by the way…

  • 1000 yards and 6 td’s is my problem! hey I’m glad we had a 1000 yard rusher and all but if that alone won games we would have finished with a better record, but I’m saying that I totally agree with you on his running style. I don’t mind him as a two headed back field but he can’t carry the load, we just have different opinions on his ability I guess.

  • JLofty

    Lol!

  • lefty12

Mark is as big a liar as his father was, maybe worse.

  • JLofty

But she isn’t a Raider sycophant it would appear. Don’t underestimate us bro….

  • RaiderCODE

doesnt mean jack in terms of Vegas… and lets be honest they voted that way as a ‘consolidation’ in turning down Carson, Kroenke will determine whether another team shares his palace and common sense says Raiders will not be that team… and I don’t think the Chargers will either…

  • what’s it cost?

  • DJ Johnny

Exactly. I don’t see everything getting approved in Vegas and then Mark breaking his deal with them unless it’s some spectacular deal in Oakland..that can be acted on quickly. Some last minute “idea” or “concept” will not be enough imo.

  • DutchRaid

Which league is this? You have multiple leagues?

  • ForHundred8

    STAY IN OAKLAND NOW!

  • RaiderCODE

he’s also terrible at it… Al at least was a smart guy.. Mark speaks and people start laughing immediately

  • JLofty

And LOSE out on MILLIONS. What a tool….dumb kid getting bad advice from the agent….
