Live playoff updates: Raiders vs. Texans on Saturday

Get live NFL playoff scoring updates, news and analysis Saturday at 1:35 p.m. when the Raiders face the Texans in Houston in an AFC Wild Card game.

The good news for the Raiders (12-4) is that they’re back in the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. The not-so-good part is that they’ll do so without their MVP-candidate quarterback Derek Carr (broken leg). Oakland sends out rookie Connor Cook for his first NFL start, becoming the only quarterback in league history to make his first start in the playoffs.

Cook will face the NFL’s top-rated defense and will do so without trusty Pro Bowl left tackle Donald Penn (knee), who will miss his first game in nine years.

**UPDATE: The Raiders also revealed that one of their top defensive linemen is sick. Mario Edwards Jr. is listed as questionable but he is active. Here are the Raiders inactives: Derek Carr, Nate Allen, Antonio Hamilton, Donald Penn, Vadal Alexander, Jihad Ward, Branden Jackson.

Houston, the AFC South champions, have quarterback issues of its own as the Texans will turn to maligned Brock Osweiler after starter Tom Savage suffered a concussion in last week’s regular-season finale loss to Tennessee.

The Raiders and Texans met already this season with Oakland rallying for a 27-20 win in Mexico on Nov. 21. Carr threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes to secure the win.

The winner of Saturday’s wild card game will likely travel to New England next week to face the Patriots in the AFC divisional round.

    Very good point.

  • eastoaklandraider

Not saying that we didn’t need someone like Carl Joseph but looking back on this season I think Robert Nkemdiche playing next to a Kmack would have made much more of an impact on the defense.

  • eastoaklandraider

Jihad Ward did very little this season and he has a lot to prove going forward

  • 3 Finger Jack

    Whos this Jake Peetz guy?

@MtgGuyDan As an outsider allow me to politely state that Billionaires using tax money to build their playhouses is absurd and obscene.

@BigBill_8 you’re over generalizing because you don’t know the details of the situation. First, Davis isn’t a billionaire, tho he’s well-off

Rumors true: Colts owner Jim Irsay did pursue Jon Gruden, but Gruden resisted overtures, league sources tell ESPN. Gruden staying in TV.

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

Gruden’s making too much money in tv.
He’s been out of coaching for awhile too.

  • CARR4MVP (baby Al)

Biggest mistake we made this season was giving McGloin the attention we did. Should of focused on Cook. McGloin was leaving after this season

  • MEX_GHOST, Raiders believer.

Not sure, Musgrave took a lower level job.

  • Aussie Raider

Hoping the Texans beat the cheating filth from New England if not I want Brady badly injured.

  • eastoaklandraider

Aaron Rodgers always has advantage in domestic games

  • MEX_GHOST, Raiders believer.

    Why?

  • eastoaklandraider

He’s the best in the game and when you give him a game in a dome with no elements he’ll be ultra accurate

  • Leonel Varela

so, garret decided to go with a pass on 3rd and short with more than 40 seconds still on the clock instead of giving the ball to elliot?… he left plenty of time for Rodgers to try to move the ball and get the FG… GB won the game right there… bad coaching always show it’s face on the playoffs…
