Nothing much to see here. The Raiders didn’t draft Cook in the fourth round to not hang onto him and they aren’t ready to move on from McGloin as the backup. They’re keeping all three quarterbacks.

The undrafted rookie cornerback was a stud return man in college at South Carolina State. He got his first chance to show something with a second-quarter punt return, but didn’t go after the ball and let it bounce to take away his chance to a return.
It may be cruel, but some of these players will only get one chance like that to show something. He also got called for a special teams penalty and his already slim roster hopes lost weight. Continue Reading

The third-round pick from Michigan State will get his fill of playing time this year and started showing some of his natural ability in this game.
He did a solid job setting the edge a couple of times and in the fourth quarter got in to the backfield for his first NFL sack. On the play, he rushed free off the left side, changed directions along with Packers quarterback Marquise Williams and wrapped his paws around him for the sack. Continue Reading

The Raiders didn’t excite anybody with their lackluster performance in Thursday’s exhibition loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The offense looked asleep at the wheel, the defense was gashed on the opening drive for the second straight week and the backups couldn’t come to the rescue in a 20-12 loss at Lambeau Field.
This might’ve been the closest thing to a dress rehearsal the Raiders will have this preseason. They host the Tennessee Titans next week in the typically critical third exhibition game. But they also face the Titans a month later in Week 3 of the season, so they may not want to show them much. Continue Reading
Mario Edwards Jr. (97) suffered his serious neck injury last time the Raiders and Packers met. He’ll sit this one out with a hip ailment while Ben Heeney (51) will suit up. (Nhat V. Meyer/Bay Area News Group)
Defensive end Mario Edwards Jr., tight end Gabe Holmes and running back Jalen Richard will not suit up for the Raiders in Thursday night’s exhibition game against the Green Bay Packers.
None of those players were expected to play with Edwards out 4-6 weeks with a hip strain, Holmes likely on injured reserve with a severe ankle injury and Richard having not practiced in a over a week. Continue Reading

One of the best pure pass rushers from the 2016 NFL Draft class is now a protege of two of the best to do it in the league.
Former Michigan State defensive end Shilique Calhoun is used to blowing up opposing backfields with his explosive speed off the edge. When the Raiders third round draft pick arrived at training camp, more was asked of Calhoun and his athletic abilities as he began cross training as a strong-side linebacker. Continue Reading
DeAndre Washington said his job with the Raiders is to make guys miss. (Photo by Norm Hall/Getty Images)
NAPA — DeAndre Washington assessed the situation and knew it was going to be “an easy win.”
The rookie running back was set to run an angle route out of the backfield in his NFL exhibition debut last week and saw the Arizona Cardinals had defensive end/outside linebacker Tristan Okpalaugo lined up on him.
“I was licking my chops,” Washington said.
The route had Washington start out running toward Okpalaugo, then quickly cut at an angle back toward the middle of the field. The defender never had a chance and stumbled for the next seven yards after Washington blew past him and made the catch and run for 32 yards. Continue Reading
Raiders linebacker Cory James, a sixth-round pick from Colorado State, was solid in his NFL debut. (The Denver Post/ Andy Cross)
Sixth-round pick Cory James stepped in with the Raiders starters on Monday when Ben Heeney went out. He’s coming off an impressive showing in his NFL debut on Friday that included five tackles.
“He’s picking up our scheme very well,” coach Jack Del Rio said. “He’s a guy that’s going to be productive. He flies around. He gets around the football. We’ve been happy with him this entire spring and he had a good showing in his first outing.”
James came in expecting to make most of his noise on special teams, but is showing enough early on that he could earn some defensive snaps — especially if Heeney misses even a little time. Continue Reading
Mario Edwards will miss a few weeks with a hip injury that won’t require surgery. (AP Photo/Jack Dempsey)
Raiders coach Jack Del Rio divulged some injury information on Monday, announcing that defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. (hip) will be “out for a while” and tight end Gabe Holmes (ankle) is likely headed for season-ending injured reserve.
“Mario is going to be a out a few weeks, that’s unfortunate,” Del Rio said. “He will return and is not going to require surgery.”
ProFootballTalk reported Sunday that Edwards has a hip strain and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Continue Reading
