The PlayStation 3 will likely be the hardest system to find this holiday season, and if you haven’t preordered or if you’re not camping for one this moment, it will be impossible for you to find.
With this in mind, I was standing in line outside the Metreon at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The line started small at the beginning but it gradually grew, filling out to 505 people when Sony did a head count in the early morning hours. My early hour wait got my the No. 5 spot in line behind Chris Toribio of San Francisco and his three friends.
The guys behind me are veterans of other console launches. Norman Edwards and Mike Hernandez have been to the Zero Hour launch in Mojave desert last year. They also waited for the PlayStation Portable at the Metreon in April 2004. They waited 28 hours.
Right now, I’m on hour 24 of a 36 hour wait. I’ve had about a half hour of sleep.
