Waiting in line

After 8 a.m., the folks at Sony moved us from Minna Street onto the Metreon proper. The only thing was there was a little tiff going between the 505 folks and a group waiting out on the other corner.

There’s a certain paranoia running through these launch lines. Because of the reduced numbers of consoles, there are people who think there won’t be enough systems and they get angry at the slightest hint they may lose their chance to get one. Couple this with a lack of sleep and it isn’t a pretty picture.

In an environment like this, some folks in the larger line were upset that the smaller one was cheating. But eventually, as 8 a.m. rolled around, they figured out an arrangement that made everyone happy. Both sides would be able to get the PlayStation 3 except the larger line of 505 people would be fire.

We moved in groups of 10 across Fourth Street and settled against the Metreon people. Chris Toribio, the No. 1, guy in line is gettin the star treatment. He’s getting interviews with the news media and special attention by the folks at Sony.

The Sony folks here say there’s going to be a special reward for the No. 1 person, and right now, Chris and the rest of us are trying to figure out what it is.

Below, Chris Toribio waits in the front of the line. Toribio got in line at 8 a.m. Wednesday and ended up being the first person in line.
