IPhone:Advice from an eBay seller

While waiting in line, you’re bound to meet someone you’ve camped out with in the past. For me, that person is Phillip Hannon. He was in the PlayStation 3 launch last November at the Metreon, and he’s in the middle of the line right now at the Apple Store in Walnut Creek.

During the holiday season, Hannon made a killing on reselling the latest video game systems. He says he bought 17 Wiis and sold them for $300 to $600. On the other hand, he didn’t have that wild success with the PS3. In addition to the one he bought on launch, he managed to get four others.

Hannon sold some of his PS3s for $1,700 to $1,800, he said. He held off on selling them later though. He mistakenly believe that the eBay market would rise over the course of the holiday system. The problem was — it didn’t. He ended up keeping one and selling another for $850.

When it coms to the iPhone, he says he sees a similarity between Apple’s new phone and the PS3. His advice for those wanting to put the device on eBay: Sell it now while it’s still hot instead of waiting for demand and popularity to go down.

I know this is a very old post, but it’s amazingly prescient. Good call, eBay guy.
