Snow Go in Whistler

All week long the complaints have been about a lack of snow for the Vancouver Games. Now as the warm, wet weather has arrived on the eve of the 2010 Winter Olympics, and get this: There is too much snow dumping in Whistler right now.

Here’s an official notice:

Due to ongoing heavy snow at the Whistler Creekside venue, training runs for men’s and women’s downhill have been cancelled.

Now we know why the FIS doesn’t bother bringing the World Cup here anymore.

Can’t wait to see how long it will take to actually watch the men’s Olympic downhill, the premier Alpine event of the Olympics, to go off.

Update on Lindsey Vonn

From a Vonn Tweet: So I took a bunch of pain killers and numbed my shin with some creams. Warmup was still very painful but I think it was good enough to give it a shot in the training run. Wish me luck!

All Systems Go

The newspaper of Silicon Valley finally has arranged an Olympics blog for our team up in the very wet Pacific Northwest. Vancouver is looking like, well, Vancouver: low gray clouds are hovering over Burrard Inlet and a sweeping rain is hitting the pavement downtown.

I will be filing when I can. Mostly, though am trying to write stories for the Mercury News: www.mercurynews.com
