I think instead of reducing benefits, I think they should consider cutting off kids from 23 to 18.Full benefits til then is more then suffient. That way the employee's keep their full benefits and it would save millions.

Some of this is so laughable it doesn't pass the giggle test. Local One members held a sealed ballot and voted by better than a 5 to 1 margin to present the MDUSD school board with an offer of four (4) furlough days as a negotiations goodwill gesture. Mr. Lawrence and the board were also advised that considering the current financial conditions being absorbed by Local One members four furlough days in a month was a hardship. It should also be noted that a number of the administrators in Mr. Lawrence's broad statement were in reality offered few options as to whether or not they could/would accept or decline their furlough days. There has been no effort to lead on this issue but to impose a
series of mandates that are unworkable.

The singular reality is that the maintenance elements of MDUSD, notably the trades and landscapers, are being turned by rhetoric and design against MDEA/CTA and they in turn against the 'stubborn, unyielding union workers in Local One'. The end result will be disastrous for both.
