As a high school coach, and a parent of one of the student/athletes who intended the meeting, I am very proud of the kids who attended. I am happy to see them show their side to the council. I hope something good comes out of this…

I have attended UMDAF meetings in the past and helped at fund-raisers. But this year between PTA, Athletic Boosters, PAC, Grad Night and now Every 15 minutes, I can’t fit any more meetings into my schedule. Plus my last child is graduating this year. I do agree that we need to get the word out there to the parents of younger high schoolers! Somehow the word about this was not brought back to our Athletic Boosters, or maybe this arrangement was made after our last meeting (which we had a large turnout of athlete’s and parents). But I will follow up and hopefully we can come up with a way to spread the word in the future.

Can UMDAF information be sent out to the district e-mails? It is hard now that we don’t have school newsletters either.

To YVHS Mom,

Yes, it was great and the council was very surprised to see 12 student athletes address them. They all gathered around the podium and stood “united” asking for the council to support them. Make sure you watch the online city council meeting to see them!

As far as Ygnacio Valley not knowing about it, all the schools were invited to go to the Concord City Council meeting, although the plan was put together very quickly. This was discussed at our last 5K meeting prior to the scheduled city council meeting. The problem is that there is such a small group of “volunteers” attending these meetings (maybe 10-12) and it’s hard to spread the word. We must have more than one volunteer from each school at these meeting, because one person representing each school cannot do it alone, especially when this person has so much responsibility with the foundation itself.

So, spread the word at YV and other schools that volunteers are needed. You can contact any member on the UMDAF board of directors that you want to help. We need you!! We really must have more willing to help out to save our sports.

This is great! I wish as a parent of an Ygnacio Valley Warrior athlete we had known about this, my athlete would have attended. Somehow the word did not get to our athlete’s and I am very involved in the school.
