According to e-mails sent to me by Bryan Richards and Steven Lawrence yesterday, the district was not sure how the budget affected AB 3632 funding. However, School Services of California is reporting that mental health funding would be covered starting in the 2011-12 school year.
Lawrence also said this: "...it looks like in his preliminary proposal, if the revenue enhancement ballot measures pass, our current level of funding would remain flat which means the $250 per student that we spoke of would not be cut. However, they are deferring $2.1B which would means we will have $310 instead of the $250 deferred from this year to next August. Overall, if the revenue enhancements are not passed the Governor said that he would have to cut the $12.1 B from the budget and that education would be significantly impacted."
Also, as you may have heard, Trustee Sherry Whitmarsh has launched her own blog at http://mdusd-boe.blogspot.com/. Her first post is about the budget.
We'll see what Richards says tonight, when the board votes on mental health funding.
