Can’t wait to see Concord High Stage Band and Jazz Band perform! I am in constant awe of their talent and dedication. Thank you, Mr. Coartney, for all the work you do with these groups.

  2. Theresa Harrington Says:

Northgate’s Jazz Band received Unanimous Superior ratings on Friday.
Saturday, Concord, YVHS and College Park bands will play, along with many from other districts.

  3. Clayton Squirrel Says:

    Congratulations to Northgate’s Jazz Band!

  4. Jazz Parent Says:

Acalanes’s Jazz Ensemble received a Unanimous Superior Award as well from our district. Las Lomas participated as well. No participation from Campolindo or Miramonte? I thought they had good jazz bands as well? My brother played in the Miramonte Jazz Band “many years ago”!!!

Other Contra Costa County schools that participated included El Cerrito in West Contra Costa and Bristow Middle School, Pittsburg HS and Freedom HS in East Contra Costa. Albany High was also there, along with several schools from outside Contra Costa County.

I don’t know how schools decide which festivals to participate in. San Ramon Valley and San Mateo held festivals earlier in the year. Next weekend, many bands will head up to Folsom, for what is considered by many to be a premiere jazz festival. Later this year, festivals will also be held in Pleasanton, Santa Cruz and Monterey. In addition, the Northgate, Las Lomas, and Berkeley high school bands perform at Yoshi’s Oakland.

One judge told the Northgate band that high school jazz band programs in San Francisco have nearly disappeared. It’s nice that they are still flourishing in the East Bay.
