The Mt. Diablo school district is seeking community input as it begins its search for a new superintendent. One meeting was held June 6 and another will be held Tuesday, June 11. Here is the excerpted public notice about the meetings:

“PUBLIC NOTICE – Request for Community Input Superintendent Search

The Board of Education of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District is conducting a search for a new district superintendent. Community input about the desired characteristics to be used in recruiting and selecting this person is desired. The trustees are soliciting input to respond to the prompt: What personal and professional qualities for an incoming superintendent will be a match for the Mt. Diablo School District?

Michael Escalante and Sally Frazier of Leadership Associates were selected to advise the board in this important process. They will be in our district on June … 11 to solicit input that will be used to develop the recruitment criteria. Your input about the desired personal and professional qualities anticipated in the incoming superintendent is valued.

Individual input from members of the community (parents, employees and others interested in our district) is desired. To attend and participate in an open forum, where your ideas will be heard and you may hear about the process, no appointment is necessary. … On June 11, 2013, it will be held at the Dent Center, 1936 Carlotta Drive, Concord 94519, also between 4:20 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

If you are unable to meet personally with the board’s advisors, you may send a fax to (760) 771-4277 or an email to lhunt@leadershipassociates.org. To speak by phone to either Michael Escalante or Sally Frazier, you may call (760) 771-4277.”

The district is also conducting a survey to gather input. Here is a link to the online survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CQF8VXM

What personal and professional qualities for an incoming superintendent do you think would be a match for the Mt. Diablo School District?

“Your input about the desired personal and professional qualities anticipated in the incoming superintendent is valued.” (We will value your input, during business hours, for 1 hour 10 minutes one meeting and 1 hour 10 minutes second meeting, to hear from student leaders, parents of 33,000 students, 5,000+ employees and 150,000+ community member/taxpayers.)

Are they sure they spare the time?

Oh. Never mind. There’s the usual stock survey online.
That should just about cover the ‘appearance’ of heeding the desires of the public. And anyway, less than 2% of the population of the district cares one little bit.

The Tuesday meeting has been extended to 7pm in order to accommodate those who cannot come during the day.

Anon: How did you find this out? That information is not included in the public notice: http://www.mdusd.org/NewsRoom/Pages/public-notice-superintendent-search.aspx

Theresa: Did JBM disclose on her Form 700s her association with Fortune School of Education as being on their Board of Directors?

Brian Lawrence heard from several members of the BOC who expressed concern over a lack of evening times. I am sure he intended to post the change.

The Board’s squabbling about Steven Lawrence’s performance delayed the termination and has now compressed the Supt search to try to get a Supt on Board by late August or early Sept. Most new Supt’s are usually in place by July 1. I just hope the Board will take whatever time it takes to find the “right” person, even if the search has to be extended.

The Public Notice has now been revised to show an ending time of 7:00pm
