Meeting about controversial Ygnacio Valley High field lights at 7 p.m. tonight

I have been informed by Tim Cody, the Mt. Diablo school district’s Measure C program manager, that there will be an “informal gathering of concerned parties” related to the Ygnacio Valley High proposed field improvements at 7 p.m. tonight in the Ygnacio Valley High School Multiuse room at 735 Oak Grove Road in Concord.

Jim MacMillan, a resident in the neighborhood near the school, said he and other neighbors were informed about the meeting by Principal Stephen Brady, who drove from home to home last Friday in a golf cart and got out and knocked on doors, then passed out letters about the meeting. However, MacMillan said he’s still unsure what the real agenda is for the meeting.

MacMillan said he and several other neighbors were at last Wednesday’s board meeting prepared to speak and were surprised when the item was removed from the agenda. He said it’s his understanding that Superintendent Nellie Meyer will be present at tonight’s meeting, along with two board members.

Do you believe the district should approve the proposed YVHS field project?

No I don’t. It doesn’t meet the Meas C bond requirement of a specific project since it wasn’t on the ballot. Any taxpayer can invalidate it, even if the district and the neighbors agree, and any money spent would have to be repaid to Meas C from the General Fund. The case of Taxpayers v. San Diego USD is almost exactly the same case as YVHS.
In watching Theresa’s videos, I have a hard time figuring out which is first, second, etc.

Sorry about the confusion regarding the videos. I was switching back and forth between my iphone and ipad and I was able to upload the iphone videos first. So, the first three videos may be out of order. The rest were shot on my ipad and I uploaded those in order.
Unfortunately, I missed Cody’s presentation, but he has sent me his PowerPoint, so I will upload that, along with the handout from the meeting, in a separate blog post.

Unfortunately, our scanner isn’t working at the moment, so I can’t upload the handout. However, the PowerPoint includes most of the information from the handout.

How many years will it take to repay the YVHS Stadium Lights, Northgate Aquatic Center ? Unfortunately, the Governor’s signature is about 4 years late for MDUSD.

  7. Doctor J Says:

Sonora taxpayers ready to sue school district that wants to build swimming pool with bond funds that did not mention an aquatic center. Sound familiar ? YVHS better quit putting its head in the sand.
