Textually.org found it significant (as did SMS Text News) that hundreds of today’s Olympic torch relay protesters in San Francisco used a particular messaging service to coordinate actions. Surprisingly (at least to me), it wasn’t Twitter (if News.com has it right). SF Metroblogging’s “Torch has left the building” includes a particularly scathing comment by San Francisco Supervisor Aaron Peskin about Mayor Gavin Newsom, while the San Francisco Bay Guardian checks in with more pictures and notes from the scene earlier today. Meanwhile, S.F. Weekly has the nude-run protest (mentioned earlier).

Contra Costa Times reporter Cam Inman, one of several reporters combing the city today for the story behind the Olympic torch run in San Francisco, sent these pictures of San Francisco police officers near either Doyle Drive or Marina Boulevard.

Contra Costa Times reporter Betsy Mason sent two pictures of pro-China marchers walking along the Embarcadero this afternoon in San Francisco.

According to Bay Area News Group team coverage of today’s Olympic torch protests in San Francisco (and unrelated Twitter comments), a boat may be used to transport the torch along part of the route originally slated on the Embarcadero.

Here’s a T-shirt that technology journalist Mat Honan plans to wear to today’s protest in San Francisco. The shirt, created by Mule Design and for sale at its Feed Store, was probably created to reference/tweak the Join(Red) campaign; Mule Design says that “$3 from each shirt will be donated to The Global Fund to fight AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis in Africa; same as the other (red) stuff.”
