iPhone: Sellers waiting for the perfect score

As more people have lined up, those planning to sell their spots in line have been fairly quiet. One of the folks on iWait.org is waiting until later in the day. “Game time” he says. Meanwhile, a few spots back, Brandon Slade had an offer for $600 and is waiting to hear back from the bidder.

After this though, he’ll stay put with his other two spots – unless a better offer comes up.

addendum 2

It’s 2 a.m. and things have calmed down a bit and the line has grown a little longer. Two employees and a security guard are spending the night at the Apple store in Walnut Creek. The two guys are playing StarCraft on the Mac.

Meanwhile, we got a visit from a motherly helper. I didn’t get her name but she just came in and dumped off shampoo, water, ingredients for a root beer float and an iPod and speaker. It was a little crazy at first. I guess she wanted it to be a little party. Some of us just wanted to sleep.

iPhone: signing off for the night

Well, it’s 9 in the evening. My power is running low and so I’ll be signing off for the night. The day’s been pretty eventful. The folks in line got pegged with water balloons. It made a big mess and upset a lot of people. Lucky for us, someone had the presence of mind to write down their license plate number.

iPhone: drive-by water ballooners caught

Well, shortly after the folks in line got pegged by water balloons. The guys who did it were caught. Chris Silva managed to write down the license plate number of one of two cars that hit us. The people who threw the balloons were found not far away from where we were. According to Silva, they’re calling their parents and they’ll apologize to the folks waiting in line. All’s well that ends well. Now, I have to dry off my shirt. I’m soaked.

iPhone line all wet

I was standing in line and whoosh. Some punk kids threw waterballoons at the folks sitting in the line. It was a water balloon drive-by. I got drenched along with some other people. It disrupted the line a bit and some folks were pretty angry. They almost hit a woman’s kid. I guess there are dangers to waiting in line in Walnut Creek.

iPhone line vs. PlayStation 3 line

Hanging out for the firs six hours in the iPhone line, I’ve noticed a couple of things that are different. This time around, the crowd seems to be more mellower. People are helping each other out, pointing out where the nearby bathrooms are (Barnes & Noble and Safeway). They’re also offering to do food runs.

iPhone: Rules to camp by

The first thing you need to do when camping for the iPhone or for aything for that matter is to make friends. The person sitting next to the left or the right of you will be your buddy for the next couple of hours. I’m sitting between two deteremined teenagers and a mom named, Sheri Neef, and her daughter, Alyssa.

iPhone: What campers should bring

I’m in a shanty town in the middle of tony downtown Walnut Creek. There are about 20 people in line so far and I suppose more people will come as 6 p.m. June 29 draws near. Passers-by keep asking, What’s going on.? And we point to the iPhone display that stands directly behind them. Surprisingly, everyone in line has come prepared.

Seeing what they have, I’ve come up with a list of things you need to camp at the iPhone line in Walnut Creek.

Waiting in line for the iPhone

This the second stupidest thing I’ve ever done.

I’m sitting in line for the iPhone, attempting to slog through an epic 28-hour wait. The good thing is that at the Apple Store in Walnut Creek has free WiFi (which all Apple stores have I think) and there’s running electricity.

GDC 2007 Day 5

When you mention the press, numbers don’t usually come up in the conversation. But at the session earlier this morning, that’s what the editors of Wired magazine, Game Developers Magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly and the IGN Web site focused on. More specifically, the four talked scores and how they relate to their designated games.

There were some public relation folk in the room along with some developers. The editors – Chris Baker of Wired; Brandon Sheffield of GDM; Dan Hsu of EGM; and Talmadge Blevins of IGN – had a spirited give-and-take with the people they work with. They each gave their take on how they score the reviews. They defined “average” for each publication and how the school system of A-F grading influences how people think of their scores. Some like using 5s for average while the public believes a 7 is an average game.
