That was the response to a story about a group of O.G.s — the A.C. Mob (the girls were the A.C. Mobettes) who are calling on all the old school gangstas to help stop the violence in Oakland. I kind of liked the idea, but wandered who would play Pam Grier. We could call it an “Oaksploitation” movie.
“The A.C. Mob is calling on all Old Skool O.G’$” to help stop the violence, reads a flier the group designed to drum up attention to their efforts.
They are asking people to come out at 6 p.m. Monday for the second Stop the Violence meeting, aimed at bringing the community together to find solutions for the violence that has claimed 93 homicide victims this year as of Friday. Food and refreshments will be served. The meeting will be held at the Word Assembly Church, 9507 MacArthur Blvd. For more information, call 510-253-5391.
Bring a friend, Bonds said.
Bringing people together at the church is an improvement over the other location where family and friends often run into each the courthouse, Davis said.
The goal is to bring the kids together and show them they are part of the community, that their families know each other, Davis said.
“They can either hear it from us in here or hear it when they get to prison,” said George Bonds, one of the original A.C.s (so named because they rode up and down MacArthur in A.C. Transit buses), who has served several stints behind bars. “Jail is ugly.” he said.
He said that a felony has made finding a job extremely difficult. “It takes half a second to pull the trigger and put one person in prison and the other in a grave,” Bonds said.
The funeral business is booming, he added.
