Sometimes I get too caught up in stories I’m working on (Sweet’s Ballroom) and sometimes the night cops beat is just busy, like lately with the latest rash of restaurant robberies. Sometimes there’s just so much entertainment it’s hard to know where to start. I walked into work today and got hit with a story about red-light traffic cameras that will go live Tuesday to a tune of $4.3 million. Many questions have to wait until tomorrow to get answered but I’ve been busy thinking them up.
Between all that and the Outside Lands and Democratic Convention I almost missed the news that reggae and dub master , make that emporer…no, wait: GOD, Lee “Scratch” Perry is coming to the Bay Area for gigs Thursday and Friday. He’ll be playing at the Independent, 628 Divisadero St. Tickets $25 (OMG!) by calling 415-771-1422. Now, I prefer albums he produced — Bob Marley, for instance — instead of his solo recordings but who am I to look down at the (mad)man who put the bass in reggae (really put the bass in it) and put the groove in punk that created the commercial-ability of the Clash, Police, Blondie etc.
