What: Burlesque ‘n’ Brass, featuring Hot Pink Feathers (dance) & Blue Bone Express (music)
When: Saturday Oct. 4, 2008, 9pm + Dec.6, 2008 (AND Nov. 1 ? — see below)
Where: Café Van Kleef, 1621 Telegraph Ave Oakland 94612
Cost: $10, 21+Oakland Monthly Show “BURLESQUE ‘n’ BRASS” at Cafe Van Kleef November 1st “Day of the Dead.” Gyrate and grind to the New Orleans-inspired jazz and funk of the brass-heavy jazz band Blue Bone Express, while world carnaval dancing darlings Hot Pink Feathers turn up the heat on the stage of Downtown Oakland’s infamous Dutch-style bar.  The explosive cabaret performance fuses music and dance traditions spanning from early-1900’s New Orleans parades to the showgirl plumage of 1950’s Rio Carnaval, dipping into the culture-clash hilarity of the ’70s and ’80s, and pushing through the present-day post-modern meltdown that is downtown Oakland.
