Geisha looking close to open

The Geisha lounge on 14th Street in the little Korean enclave near Lake Merritt is looking lively, like it’s close to opening to the public. Right now there’s still renovating going on, though. BTW, did anyone catch Sidebar’s opening this weekend? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

I’m all for new businesses downtown, but what’s with the name Geisha Lounge? The image of Asian women as exotic sexualized ‘geishas’ is something that does not need glorification. Until the owner changes the name, I’m not setting foot in this place.
