SF tries to close Medjool rooftop bar

Last night was nearly perfect. I was having a drink at Medjool in San Francisco, watching the lights of the Bay Bridge sparkle over the dark mirror of the water. There was barely a breeze and the fog was held off by some magical force that descends too seldomly on the city (which is one reason I moved to Oakland). So the news that city officials are trying to close the Medjool rooftop  bar from where I was taking in the oh so charming skyline and fleeting weather shocked me out of my little paradise moment. The owners have issued a rallying cry — or rather a Facebook drive — against what they say is the SF Planning Department’s effort to shut down the roofdeck portion of the Mission District restaurant and lounge.  The department issued a notice that the rooftop violates the city planning code, which Medjool disputes. Just thought folks would want to know: info@savemedjoolsf.com. The SF Weekly posted a sort of bitchy item on their blog about it.
