I was talking more generally about coverage of Oakland: “There’s something exciting happening with Southern food in the Bay Area, and a lot of that excitement is encapsulated at Picán in Oakland.” I have read two other Chron articles of the same bent.

It’s hardly a glowing review. The finally tally is 2 1/2 stars overall and 2 stars for food which translates only as “Good.”

Based on one my experience there, I’d say the review was pretty accurate. I would not suggest going to Pican, but if someone else wanted to go I would not veto it.
