Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Alamo, was elected today by California Democrats in the House of Representatives as its regional whip. The regional whip serves as the chief liaison between the House leadership, led by incoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco and her fellow Northern Californians in Congress.
“It is always an honor to be chosen by your colleagues, peers and friends to serve in a capacity such as this,” Tauscher said in a prepared release Wednesday afternoon. “The Democratic Caucus is united and ready to go to work for the American people, and I’m excited and honored to be playing a greater role in this effort.”
The Northern California Region, or Region 2, encompasses California congressional districts 1-22 as well Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, and American Samoa.
Meanwhile, the California delegation unanimously re-elected Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-San Jose, to continue to chair the 34-member California Democratic Congressional Delegation. She has been chairwoman since June 203.
“I look forward to continuing my work with the large and dynamic California Democratic Congressional Delegation, and know that we will get things accomplished for the people of California,” Lofgren said in a prepared release Wednesday. “The 110th Congress marks a new era for our delegation, and we will work to make sure California gets the representation and results our state deserves.”
