On Wednesday from 8-10:30 p.m. EST, Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, will chair the proceedings of the U.S. House of Representatives as Speaker pro tempore. Interested folks may view the House proceedings live on C-SPAN.
Contrary to what you might think, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, doesn’t have to run every floor session. She assigns other Democrats to run the floor in her absence.
This will be Rep. McNerney’s first time serving as the presiding officer and since he has never held public office, negotiating the arcane parliamentary rules that govern the House could prove both challenging and entertaining.
But don’t worry, McNerney will have plenty of help. House parliamentarians will make sure he doesn’t stray far from proper operating protocol.
