“Two Americas,” both in Berkeley

edwards.jpg2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee and 2008 presidential candidate John Edwards will hold a rally at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at YWCA Berkeley, 2600 Bancroft Way; although he’s on a college tour, he’s staying off Cal’s campus “to express his solidarity with the workers at the University of California at Berkeley who have been struggling for fair wages,” according to his news release. He’ll be joined at the rally by Kate Michelman, the former president of NARAL Pro-Choice America.

Edwards was part of the wave of Democratic candidates that rushed through the Bay Area last month — along with Tom Vilsack, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton — but he’d held only private meetings with campaign contributors, with no public appearances.

He was in Fresno today, meeting privately with United Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriguez and dozens of citrus farm workers to discuss laborers’ challenges including including the recent California citrus freeze. He’s scheduled to hold a rally Monday evening on UCLA’s campus.
