Paris Hilton’s appeal to governor backfiring?

So hotel heiress and socialite Paris Hilton (would somebody please remind me why she’s famous and popular?) is petitioning Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon her so she need not serve 45 days in jail for for violating the terms of her probation on a drunk driving charge.

As of this writing, her petition has 14,289 signatures. Meanwhile, the “Jail Paris Hilton” petition — urging Gov. Schwarzenegger to ignore the clemency petition — has 21,368 signatures.

The people hath spoken: She oughtta shut up and pay her dues, especially because — as The New York Post reports — she’ll probably only have to serve about half of the 45-day sentence.
