CD11 candidate Andal raises big bucks

Congressional District 11 Republican candidate Dean Andal raked in $250,000 in a single fund-raiser last week, an impressive early figure in a race with the potential to easily break the 2006 spending record for this seat.

An Andal campaign staffer reports that 300 people attended the dinner at the Historic River Mill in French Camp, which included 187 co-chairs and sponsors such as former GOP congressmen Bill Baker of Danville and Doug Ose of Sacramento.

Andal is the only declared Republican candidate for the CD11 GOP primary, although Assemblyman Guy Houston, R-San Ramon, is considering entering the race.

Republicans want to take District 11 back after losing it in 2006 when Democratic Rep. Jerry McNerney of Pleasanton beat seven-term incumbent Richard Pombo, a Tracy Republican.
